Patricia Arquette has joined the cast of Boardwalk Empire for its fourth season.
Arquette will appear in a major recurring role opposite Steve Buscemi. She will play Sally Wheet, a tough Tampa speakeasy owner who has connections to local gangsters.
Season 4 of Boardwalk Empire is currently in production and is set to premiere later this year. The mob period drama premiered on HBO in September 2010 and has received widespread critical acclaim for its visuals and its basis on historical figures, such as Enoch L. Johnson, on whom Buscemi’s Enoch “Nucky” Thompson is based.
Arquette’s last major television series commitment was to Medium, which ran for seven seasons from 2005 until 2011. Arquette played Allison DuBois, a medium employed as a consultant for the Phoenix district attorney’s office. The series was based on the experiences of the real-life Allison DuBois, who worked with several law enforcement agencies, including the Glendale, Arizona police department. Medium was based on DuBois’ book Don’t Kiss Them Good-Bye.
Arquette also recently starred in the Roman Coppola-directed film A Glimpse Inside the Mind of Charles Swan III. The film, which stars Charlie Sheen as the titular character, focuses on a graphic designer whose enviable life begins to slide into despair when his girlfriend breaks up with. Arquette played Charles’ sister, Izzy.
The film received negative reviews from critics, with the A.V. Club‘s Nathan Rabin saying, “It isn’t a movie so much as a feature-length perfume commercial for a Charlie Sheen signature cologne with gorgeous packaging and absolutely nothing inside.” A Glimpse Inside the Mind of Charles Swan III currently holds a 28 score on Metacritic and a 15 percent rating on Rotten Tomatoes.
