Wife of former Dallas Cowboy found dead

LeAnne Novacek, wife of former Dallas Cowboys tight end Jay Novacek, was found dead this morning in the couple’s home in Burleson, Texas.

Cause of death has not been determined, but Burleson city spokesperson Sally Ellertson has disclosed that police responded to a report of a “medical emergency, possible suicide” at 8:37am local time. Novacek was pronounced dead at 9:05am. An autopsy is scheduled for Tuesday and a police investigation is ongoing.

Jay Novacek, 47, played for the Cowboys for six seasons, between 1990 and 1996. In 11 seasons of play (first for the St. Louis Cardinals) Novacek recorded 422 receptions for 4,630 yards and 30 touchdowns. Novacek retired from football in 1997, after a back injury in 1996 saw him sitting out the season. The couple remained in the area and maintained a high profile, with frequent involvement in charity work. Jay Novacek appeared last year on a Spike reality show titled 4th and Long.
