Emma Stone And Shailene Woodley Meet In ‘Amazing Spider-Man 2’ [Video]

Yesterday, the Internet was given The Amazing Spider-Man 2 set photos which showed Emma Stone and Shailene Woodley meeting in-character as Gwen Stacy and Mary Jane Watson (respectively) for the first time.

Now we have the video.

Okay, so it’s not the best video, but if you squint really hard and turn up the volume all the way, you might get an idea of what’s going on in the scene where Gwen meets Mary Jane for the first time. If you can’t tell what’s going on, we’ll try to break it down for you.

It starts off with Gwen hopping out of a cab and jogging up the stairs to Peter Parker’s place. How do we know it’s Peter Parker’s place? Because the number (36) on the door as the same as it was in the last film (yes, I’m that big of a nerd). So Gwen is going to confront Peter for something, but he never comes to the door.

Enter Mary Jane, sneaking in awkwardly from the side. Gwen at first seems surprised to see her, but there’s also some awkward laughing, with Gwen tensing up and Mary Jane seemingly trying to break the ice. By the end of the clip, it looks like they warm up to each other a bit.

So what’s happening in this scene? Did Mary Jane just sneak out of Peter’s bedroom window? Probably not. And remember, she’s the “girl next door” from the comics, so it’s likely she’s just the neighbor saying “hello.”

Other set photos showing Mary Jane seem to agree on that point. There are a handful of shots showing her on a motorcycle with Peter Parker standing nearby in front of what appears to be his garage. A couple released yesterday show Mary Jane working on a fence (or something) in the same style as Peter’s. So they’re neighbors, or Mary Jane is being set up as an extremely handy stalker.

Anyway, here’s the synopsis for The Amazing Spider-Man 2:

“For Peter Parker (Andrew Garfield), life is busy – between taking out the bad guys as Spider-Man and spending time with the person he loves, Gwen (Emma Stone), high school graduation can’t come quickly enough. Peter hasn’t forgotten about the promise he made to Gwen’s father to protect her by staying away – but that’s a promise he just can’t keep. Things will change for Peter when a new villain, Electro (Jamie Foxx), emerges, an old friend, Harry Osborn (Dane DeHaan), returns, and Peter uncovers new clues about his past.”

The Amazing Spider-Man 2 also stars Colm Feore, Paul Giamatti, Sally Field and Chris Cooper. It swings into theaters May 2, 2014. Check out the video of Emma Stone and Shailene Woodley meeting in-character below:
