Grumpy Cat Heads To SXSW [Video]
Grumpy Cat is taking a trip to the SXSW festival this weekend in Austin, Texas.
Although the internet’s most famous unhappy feline is expected to turn up for photo opportunities over the next three days, don’t expect her to be happy about it.
The folks at Mashable reportedly invited Grumpy Cat out to SXSW to meet some of her adoring fans. Tardar Sauce has become all the rage on the internet over the past several months. Her appearance at the festival is expected to draw quite a crowd.
Fans were already lined up to meet Grumpy Cat on Friday. One fan who waited in line for a photograph with the feline said it “made my day.”
The South by Southwest Conferences & Festivals offers a weekend filled with music, movies, and entertainment. Should Grumpy Cat’s Friskies-sponsored appearance prove successful, it could lay the groundwork for more internet celebrities next year.
Tardar Sauce has been the center of thousands of JPEGs and memes which feature the feline’s iconic frown. She has faced everything from the 2012 Doomsday theories to the Super Bowl. The cat’s likeness has been used countless times since images surfaced late last year.
Although Grumpy Cat’s owners release photos of the kitty on a regular basis, her owners insist that Tardar Sauce lives a normal, healthy, and happy life.
“She isn’t in front of a camera all of the time like many people perceive,” the owners explain on the feline’s official website. “We only take photos sets once every week or so and on the few occasions where we have met with the media or licensed partners we ensure the sessions are short and that she isn’t handled by many people.”
Owner Tabatha Bundesen told news.au.com last year that Tardar Sauce’s under bite is what gives the feline it’s grumpy appearance. Bundesen added that the kitty’s lack of coordination may also contribute to her testy attitude.
“Tardar is not as coordinated as a normal cat, so she is likely a little angry about that. I think she likes to be held and petted some times, but being the pet of a 10 year old could make anyone grumpy,” the cat’s owner added.
Tardar Sauce fans will have an opportunity to meet the internet’s favorite grumpy cat all weekend. Do keep in mind that lines are likely to be long, so be sure to bring plenty of patience to the meet and greet.
