‘SmackDown Live’ Star To Get Renewed Push After Signing WWE Contract Extension

SmackDown Live has been described as the land of opportunity for WWE superstars looking to improve their position in the company. One of the superstars looking to capitalize is Sin Cara, who is reportedly getting a renewed push. The latest backstage news has revealed why Sin Cara is going to move up in the SmackDown Live pecking order.

According to PW Insider, the WWE has started to give Sin Cara a renewed push in the past couple of weeks. If fans haven’t noticed, the masked superstar returned to SmackDown Live two weeks ago after a three-month absence. Sin Cara was last seen in the July 4 edition of SmackDown Live when he failed to win the Independence Day Battle Royal.

But in those two weeks, Sin Cara has defeated United States champion Baron Corbin twice by count-out and disqualification. It may not be a pinfall victory, but judging where Sin Cara was before, it’s a massive improvement. The report also noted that the WWE gave the push due to Reebok recently releasing Sin Cara’s own line of shoes.

The WWE, in partnership with Reebok Classic Leather and Alexander John, has created a signature shoe for Sin Cara, per Kicks on Fire. The shoes have a special colorway of green, white, and red, as a tribute to Sin Cara’s home country of Mexico.

PW Insider added that Sin Cara signing a WWE contract extension also played a part in his renewed push. With two wins over Baron Corbin, he is expected to get a title shot for the United States championship. The WWE might be focused on the Indian market at the moment, but the company has been looking for a superstar to appeal to the Latin market since the original Sin Cara flopped.

For those fans who do not know, the current Sin Cara is portrayed by the man formerly known as Hunico. The original Sin Cara was played by Luis Urive or Mistico, but he failed to impress during his three-year stint in the WWE that was filled with lots of botches. The Sin Cara character was retained, and the current iteration won the NXT Tag Team Championship with Kalisto in 2014.

Ever since Rey Mysterio and Alberto Del Rio were released, the WWE has been looking for a Hispanic superstar to carry the company in the region. Del Rio returned, but he was released again while The Colons, Kalisto, and Sin Cara have failed on the main roster. Lince Dorado and Gran Metalik have potential, but they are currently stuck in the cruiserweight division.

The WWE is all about the money, and with Sin Cara’s own signature shoe, the company would want to capitalize on it. And the only way for fans to care about Sin Cara is by featuring him on SmackDown Live more often. Some fans might not like it, but that is how the WWE operates.
