‘The Walking Dead’ Star Juan Gabriel Pareja Teases Morales’ Backstory, Possible Season 8 Survival [Spoilers]

It seems like the characters who were initially introduced in the first season of The Walking Dead have a tendency of resurfacing later in the AMC series. After all, fans believed that Merle Dixon was killed when the group left him handcuffed on a rooftop before he turned up as the Governor’s trusted ally. But could the same thing happen to Morales now that he is working for Negan in TWD Season 8? Actor Juan Gabriel Pareja teases on how Morales’ backstory will be explored in the third episode “Monsters.”

The return of Morales certainly had people shocked because viewers had assumed that the “familiar face” Rick Grimes would encounter in “The Damned” would belong to Heath. Nevertheless, the family man who was last seen driving off to Birmingham has somehow popped up in Washington, D.C., and is now one of the Saviors. But how exactly did Morales end up joining Negan’s villainous community? Juan Gabriel Pareja says the truth could be revealed in future episodes of The Walking Dead Season 8.

Juan Gabriel Pareja recently spoke to Entertainment Weekly about what will happen next for his character. Interestingly, it sounds like The Walking Dead Season 8, Episode 3 will feature Morales’ story starting from when he left Georgia in the first season. Hopefully, the fate of his family will be explained in “Monsters.”

“I can’t say too much, but we’ll definitely learn a little bit of a backstory from Morales and what’s been going on with him over the years, and a little bit of what’s lead to his transformation and transition into one of Negan’s men as a Savior.”

But what are the chances that Morales will decide to betray Negan and help Rick Grimes instead? Pareja insisted that this character is now “a different guy” so it is unclear where his loyalties lie. In the meantime, Morales’ appearance may have also offered a new look at how the Saviors operate in The Walking Dead Season 8.

There is a possibility that Morales and his family made it to Birmingham. However, some believe that he may have encountered a group that works with Negan all the way in Alabama. Is it possible that there are more Saviors out there who have been working together in several different states? This could mean that the war Rick Grimes is fighting in The Walking Dead Season 8 might include more people than he originally thought.

Will Morales manage to capture Rick Grimes for Negan? Could Rick’s old friend decide to side with the Alexandrians instead? The third episode of The Walking Dead Season 8 is titled “Monsters.” It will premiere on AMC on November 5.
