‘Project Runway’ 2017 Recap: Episode 11 — Warrior Fashion

It was all about warrior women tonight on Project Runway 2017, as the designers on Project Runway Season 16 created editorial looks for the Avon challenge. They used women that have battled cancer as their inspiration, but which designer was eliminated? Find out the Episode 11 details below in our Project Runway 2017 recap.

Last week on Project Runway Season 16, the final six designers competed in an unconventional materials challenge, which also happened to be the Lexus challenge for the season. They had three minutes to gather up safety materials and use that to create their looks for the week. The pressure was on, especially with only six designers remaining. The designers showed it, but the judges were really impressed by the looks, liking four of the six looks. That left Margarita and Kentaro in the bottom two, with the judges deciding to send Margarita home from the competition. They are so close to determining the finalists for Season 16.m

The Challenge

For this challenge, they would create a high-fashion, editorial look that was inspired by “warrior women,” which are women that have battled breast cancer. They had a $250 budget and two days to complete this challenge.

The Workroom

After sketching, the designers on Project Runway 2017 headed to Mood to get their fabrics. Brandon said that Zac Posen told him his looks were dull, so he was trying to brighten it up tonight. Back in the workroom, everyone got started except Kenya, as she had no idea what she was going to make. Margarita thought this garment will show her point-of-view as a designer, which Zac said he was not sure of for her. The first day came to an end and Kenya barely got anything done.

For the second day, it seemed like Kentaro and Brandon have very similar looks going. Kenya was still struggling to come up with an idea.

Tim’s Critiques

Tim Gunn came in to check out where the designers were at with their looks so far. For Ayana, he said he was crazy about the top and it was a “wow” moment. He told Kentaro to make sure he didn’t have too many competing ideas in his look. For Brandon, Tim wondered if Brandon was taking the extra step to win this show or doing the same thing each week. Tim told Kenya she is the only designer left that has not won a challenge, so she has to win this. He believed in Margarita’s look and thought it was very powerful.

Back To Work

Thanks to Tim’s critique, Kenya now had a vision and was working towards a finished look. The designers and models had their consultation with the Avon makeup team, as this is an Avon challenge. Kentaro struggled getting the hood of his top over his model’s head and hair. Afterwards, he decided to make a new piece since it was too tight. He rushed around, as the second day came to an end.

Runway Day

The designers had two hours to finish their looks and get the models into their looks. Kentaro added another layer to his top but was using black, which the judges don’t always like. Margarita had some extra material popping out the back of her look, so she was paranoid heading to the runway.

Judges’ Critiques

Since there were only five designers remaining, they all got critiques tonight on Project Runway 2017. The judges tonight were Heidi Klum, Zac Posen, Nina Garcia, and guest judge Rachel Brosnahan.

  • Kenya – Heidi felt the model look amazing tonight and finally someone got her 100 percent. Nina said the power is in the color and the tailoring. Rachel said it was stunning and beautiful coming down the runway.
  • Brandon – Heidi said it is out there, but he is creating something new. Nina said it is extremely editorial, but the bonnet may be weird. Rachel loved the bonnet and it felt like a feminine take on a helmet. Zac said he knocked it out of the park.
  • Margarita – Zac said she has nice draping on the bottom. Heidi said it is a literal Wonder Woman to her and it looks messy. Nina liked the concept of controlled chaos, but she looks stuffed in there.
  • Kentaro – Rachel said she could not see her body. Nina said it does not have shape or color or anything to photograph. Heidi said from the waist up, there is not enough.
  • Ayana – Zac said it is wacky but impeccable. Rachel said it is bold and it is beautifully tailored. Heidi said she is showing no skin and looks so powerful and sexy. Nina said it is nice to see her evolve.

Results

The judges took a closer look at the designs from tonight and then made their final decisions. The designers returned to the runway and the winner tonight was Brandon. It came down to Kentaro and Margarita in the bottom two, as the judges eliminated Margarita tonight. However, Tim loved her look and he used his save on her. That meant no one was eliminated tonight.
