‘Game Of Thrones’ Season 8 Theory: Gendry’s Backstory Might Merge With Aegon Targaryen’s ‘ASOIAF’ Storyline

The world of Game of Thrones is filled with several interesting characters who are possibly destined to play a large role in the journey to discover who will be the rightful ruler of the Seven Kingdoms. Some of these characters might even prove to be game-changers in the final season. One particular theory suggests that viewers will finally learn the truth about Gendry in Game of Thrones Season 8. Is it possible that Robert Baratheon’s bastard son might actually end up being the true heir to the Iron Throne?

Fans have been expecting Gendry to be a particularly important character since Ned Stark found him in the first season. People were especially concerned about his whereabouts when Ser Davos Seaworth sent him away on a boat for several seasons. Luckily, Gendry is back and absolutely ready to join the war against the White Walkers in Game of Thrones Season 8. But what are the chances that his origin story might actually take on the storyline of a character from A Song of Ice and Fire that has been written out of the HBO series?

There is a popular Game of Thrones theory that suggests Gendry might actually be the son of Robert Baratheon and Cersei Lannister. The theory points out that the current Queen of the Seven Kingdoms had spoken about having a black-haired boy who she claims died soon after birth. There is a possibility that the child had survived and was taken away to live in Flea Bottom.

If this is true, this could mean that Gendry is not a bastard and the rightful King of the Seven Kingdoms in Game of Thrones Season 8. In addition to that, his storyline would be very similar to that of the first Aegon Targaryen who happens to be the son of Rhaegar and Elia Martell.

In George R.R. Martin’s A Song of Ice and Fire book series, the real Aegon Targaryen was allegedly saved from a horrible death when he was a baby. The infant was sent away by Varys and the child eventually grew up to adopt the name Young Griff. In A Dance with Dragons, Aegon is supported by the Golden Company as he plans to seek out his aunt Daenerys Targaryen for a possible alliance. Some believe that Gendry might learn that Cersei Lannister is his true mother in Game of Thrones Season 8 and could reach out to her to prove he is the rightful heir to the Iron Throne.

Game of Thrones Season 8 will air on HBO in late 2018 or early 2019.
