Virginia Jewelry Store Owner Closes Shop To Mourn Obama’s Win

Bedford, VA — A jewelry store owner in Bedford closed his doors on Wednesday to “mourn” the outcome of Tuesday’s presidential election.

The store owner, R.T. Lyons, also hung signs in the shop’s windows that read:

“Closed to mourn the loss of the America that our forefathers endowed to us.”

WDBJ-7 reports that Lyons explained his reasoning Thursday by saying:

“I just didn’t feel like coming to work. There are many days I feel like that as a small business owner.”

Lyons added that he was experiencing grief after the election results came through. He added that he believes Barack Obama having a second term as president will lead to an end in capitalism that will hurt his business. Lyons added:

“He has every right to get his agenda done now. He’s been put in by the people and that’s what he should do.”

But Lyons does not agree with the President’s agenda. He believes Obama wants to undermine the principles of free enterprise that were established by the country’s founders. He also worries that Obama will raise taxes on the wealthy people who shop at his store, adding, “I’m in the luxury business. I deal with more expensive items.”

The Daily Caller notes that the Virginia jewelry store owner gave his employees a day off with pay on Wednesday but he angered some of his customers with the display.

Willie Thornhill, who was a 13-year customer of Lyons’ Jewelry, stated, “I will not be a customer again with this company.” But Amanda Gordon, another customer, was pleased, adding, “I think it speaks the truth.”
