WWE Rumors And News: The Undertakers ‘Royal Rumble’ Opponent Speculation

WWE wrestling fans are thrilled to see the return of The Undertaker. The Deadman made a return during the go-home edition of SmackDown, and since then rumors have flown around who The Undertaker might fight at the 2017 Royal Rumble. Ever since Wrestlemania 32, WWE wrestling fans have become increasingly excited about The Undertaker’s return. We have had plenty of speculation, and several teasers, but no clear information on who The Undertakers Royal Rumble opponent will be.

For his own part The Undertaker says he is back in WWE to “take souls and dig holes,” so perhaps he doesn’t really care who he will face off against. As was recently reported in the Inquisitr fight fans would love to see The Undertaker face off against AJ. Styles. The prospect of facing The Undertaker didn’t seem to hold too many fears for Styles when he said he would be happy with the fight if that was what WWE wrestling fans wanted to see.

“It may be a dream match for The Undertaker. More importantly, is it a dream match for the WWE Universe? If they want Undertaker vs. AJ Styles, I say we give it to them.”

There is no doubt that seeing The Undertaker take on 2016 sensation AJ Styles would be a huge draw as the Royal Rumble returns to the Alamodome in San Antonio, Texas for the first time in 20 years. On that occasion, WWE fans set a record as over 60,000of them attended the event. That record still stands over two decades later and a match between Styles and the Undertaker might just help to break that record at Royal Rumble 2017.

Why Would WWE Want A Match Between The Undertaker And AJ Styles?

According to Wrestling Rumors fans of The Undertaker could be set for a disappointment, they claim that Styles is more likely to face another returning WWE star, John Cena. As reported by Forbes, Cena’s return would be a big draw for the Royal Rumble. There have even been suggestions that a three-way tie between Cena, The Undertaker, and AJ Styles could happen. An event on that scale would be epic, and there is every chance that match could help WWE to smash that 20-year-old attendance record.

As any WWE fight fan is aware, it isn’t always easy to know what the card will look like this far in advance of the event. That said, Fox Sports is adamant that The Undertaker vs. AJ Styles in a WWE Championship is in the cards. They claim that the logic is straightforward, AJ Styles vs. The Undertaker will sell tickets.

“By bringing in Undertaker to face Styles, they could contend for the WWE Championship in the biggest non-Royal Rumble match of the evening.”

“The Undertaker remains a big draw, even after crossing 50-years-old, that the WWE Universe wants to see. So, if the company can get him for the show, then they’re likely on their way to selling a few extra tickets.”

If The Undertaker does face AJ Styles at the Royal Rumble, then that would likely free the path for a match between The Undertaker and John Cena at WrestleMania 33 in April 2017. In recent weeks, it has been widely claimed that a match between Cena and The Undertaker will happen and that it could mark a final bout before retirement for The Undertaker.

Cena returns to SmackDown Live next Tuesday in Chicago and there is a lot of speculation that Cena’s plans will be revealed on that day. There is no doubt that fans of The Undertaker would like to see his face off against both Cena and AJ Styles. Perhaps a three-way match would be the best way to satisfy fight fans wishes.

The Undertaker is now on the wrong side of 50-years-old and has already undergone hip surgery. There must be doubts about how long The Undertaker can continue in WWE and a match with AJ Styles and John Cena would be a perfect send off.
