‘The Walking Dead’ Spoilers: Carl Could Be The Next Major Character To Die As Rumors Point To Chandler Riggs Leaving The Show

The Walking Dead could be headed for a major twist, with spoilers indicating that Carl could be the next major character killed off as actor Chandler Riggs is ready to leave the show.

Fans believe the 17-year-old actor, the son of Andrew Lincoln’s major character Rick, will be killed off at some point during the current seventh season. The rumors came via Chandler’s dad, William, who posted on Facebook (via the U.K. newspaper Metro) to celebrate Chandler’s new contract.

“7 year contract completed! Grateful to AMC, Cast & Crew, TWD fan base and especially Chandler for always being 100% dedicated.

“Whether it was getting up at 4am, working in the freezing cold past 2am, leaving his friends and carefree kiddom behind, scrambling to make up missed schoolwork, he has done it without complaint and always made me proud & amazed to be his dad!”

As the Metro noted, the wording of the post led many fans to fear that Carl would be killed off The Walking Dead sometime during that seventh season. This would normally go down as some of the typical rumors that surround a show like The Walking Dead, but Chandler Riggs remained silent when fans started to question whether his character would die, which helped fuel the rumors even further.

If Carl ends up as the next major character to die on The Walking Dead, it would be quite a deviation from the comic book. The young survivor is one of the few remaining characters alive in both the television show and the comic on which it is based and plays a major role in opposing Negan.

Romper noted that Carl is one of the only members of the group who has only known life after the zombie apocalypse, and it’s made him that much more stronger.

“Luckily for Carl, he hasn’t been bludgeoned by a bat or eaten by a zombie yet. He’s still alive in the comics, just a little bit taller and angrier and more of a moody teenager. (So, basically, like he is on the show.) Carl must have nine lives, because even after being shot twice (and once in the face!) he’s still managed to survive,” the report noted. “Carl is in a dangerous position in the show, too, because he’s not afraid when it comes to standing up to Negan. But, like the comics, that might be the very thing that keeps him safe.”

There are plenty of other reports of potential deaths to come on the Walking Dead this year. The arrival of Negan led to the deaths of Glenn and Abraham, and there could be more to come thanks to the chaos he brings.

The biggest potential spoiler for the Walking Dead points to Daryl Dixon being killed. He has been able to survive a number of scrapes through the past few years that brought him close to death, and Norman Reedus hinted to Entertainment Weekly that there would be a “heartbreaking” future for Daryl.

But there were also rumors last season that Daryl may be killed, based largely off his move to a new reality show called Ride with Norman Reedus. The show ended up filming during The Walking Dead‘s offseason, but there are still many fans who think Daryl’s death could be the major twist of the coming season.

The potential spoilers that Carl might die on The Walking Dead would itself be a major shift for the show. Both he and Rick are the most important characters, featured in the bulk of episodes and also key to marketing efforts. The showrunner has also appeared to set up Carl as a potential successor to Rick, especially given his ability to stand up to Negan.
