Alexandria Vera: Houston Teacher Who Aborted 13-Year-Old Lover’s Child To Evade Arrest Pleads Guilty

A former middle school instructor, who was impregnated by a 13-year-old boy, accepted a plea deal early Wednesday.

USA Today reports that Alexandria Vera, 25, pleaded guilty to a lesser charge of aggravated sexual assault of a minor following her June 2016 arrest for the continuous sexual abuse of the aforementioned teen. According to court documents, Vera carried on a nine-month long relationship with the boy, who she first met at Stovall Middle School in Houston early last summer.

At some point during their courtship, which Vera claimed the young boy’s parents supported, it was discovered that she had become pregnant with his child after having sex with him on “almost a daily basis.” However, once word of her pregnancy somehow made its way to the state’s Child Protective Service unit, she allegedly got nervous and had the fetus aborted.

Witnesses stated during the trial that they often saw the male student at Vera’s home for “sleepovers,” and at times, as many as five other teenage boys visited as well. When questioned by neighbors about the identity of her young suitor, the accused, who is also the mother of a 4-year-old-daughter, purportedly explained that he was her little brother.

“She was having a lot of kids in her home,” one of Vera’s neighbors said during court proceedings. “There was drinking [going on] in the front [of her house]. We always found beer bottles and beer cans on her side of the lawn, and half of the [teens] did not look older than [most] high school [students], maybe.”

The parents of Vera’s teen lover were said to have first met his adult “significant other” during an open house at Stovall in Fall 2015. During that interaction, the boy reportedly introduced Vera as his “girlfriend,” which they supposedly wholly accepted. From that point on, she was often allowed to attend family gatherings at their residence and was treated as one of their kin. When news of her pregnancy came to light in January of this year, it was said that they were “very supportive and excited” about the arrival of a grandchild.

Under the initial charges, Vera could have faced life imprisonment, but she might see up to 30 years for the lesser charges, thanks to the request of the prosecutors. Her official sentencing will take place next January. Her former lover, now 14, was ultimately removed from his parents’ home and placed in foster care until August of next year. His guardians, who have three other young children in their care, were not charged with any crime, but they were ordered to attend court-mandated parenting classes.

In related news, another teacher from a Houston-area school is behind bars after a parent anonymously reached out to law officials to report his sexual relationship with one of his students.

Math teacher Alfredo Campos, 30, received two felony counts of sexual assault of a child under 17 last Friday, according to the Houston Chronicle. As stated in the documents in that case, Campos initially lied to police about the nature of his relationship with the female student before screenshots of several text conversations he had with the young girl were shown to him.

During the investigation, the teenager, whose age was not noted in the Chronicle post, first told law enforcement that Campos had only kissed and groped her one time, but their correspondence and the accused’s statement revealed that the two had sex at least four of five times in nearby Bear Creek Park.

As of Monday evening, Campos was still being held on $30,000 bail. Following his arrest, the Cypress-Fairbanks School Board released a statement explaining that Campos had been immediately removed from the campus.

“Violations of student trust will not be tolerated,” they relayed. “We fully support the swift prosecution of anyone caught compromising student safety.”
