‘WWE SmackDown Live’ Results: The Undertaker Will Return Before ‘WrestleMania 33’

Five days before SmackDown Live and Monday Night Raw go head-to-head at Survivor Series 2016, WWE legends The Undertaker and Edge both made special appearances for the 900th weekly episode of SmackDown. After an explosive ending to Raw that saw AJ Styles, Bray Wyatt, Randy Orton, Dean Ambrose and Shane McMahon colliding with their Survivor Series opponents, all five competitors — along with official mascot James Ellsworth — were guests on The Cutting Edge.

WWE SmackDown Live Preview

As noted at WWE’s official SmackDown Live preview, The Undertaker will be appearing on WWE television for the first time since he defeated Shane McMahon at WrestleMania 32 in their brutal Hell in a Cell Match. Many have speculated that his appearance on SmackDown will reveal some clue as to who will face the Dead Man at WrestleMania 33. Meanwhile, as mentioned above, Edge will be returning to talk with the blue brand’s top five superstars prior to their big match at the Survivor Series.

Additionally, less than a week before he’s scheduled to defend the WWE Intercontinental Championship against Sami Zayn, Dolph Ziggler will put the title on the line against former champion The Miz. Despite being forced to team together at Survivor Series, team captain Nikki Bella will face Carmella in singles action. WWE’s preview also raised the question as to whether or not Breezango will be able to “survive long enough” to compete at Survivor Series. Could there be one more change to Sunday’s card before SmackDown is over?

WWE SmackDown Live Results

The following includes the results of all the matches and segments from SmackDown Live on November 15. This episode of SmackDown airs live from the Mohegan Sun Arena in Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania. SmackDown Live hasn’t won the ratings war with Monday Night Raw since the week the blue brand hosted the WWE Draft. With this week’s episode of SmackDown being the monumental 900th episode — and featuring the return of Undertaker and Edge so close to Survivor Series 2016 — will this be the first time Shane McMahon and Daniel Bryan’s show defeats WWE Raw?

SmackDown Pre-Show on the WWE Network

Scott Stanford hosted the SmackDown Pre-Show, and was joined by Lita and Jerry “The King” Lawler in the studio. Booker T was assigned to backstage duty, reporting live from the show. Later in the evening, in character as King Booker, he would give a motivational speech to the tag teams representing the blue brand at Survivor Series.

The Miz defeated Dolph Ziggler for the WWE Intercontinental Championship

The 900th episode of SmackDown kicked-off with a quick message from the Commissioner and General Manager before the IC title match. It was almost 30 minutes into the program before the opening match concluded, but after interference from both the Spirit Squad and Maryse, The Miz captured the Intercontinental Championship for the sixth time in his career. That means that The Miz will be responsible for defending the belt against Sami Zayn at Survivor Series.

Kalisto defeated Oney Lorcan

Oney Lorcan, still a relatively new face within NXT, was given the opportunity to compete on SmackDown Live as Kalisto’s warm-up for The Brian Kendrick at Survivor Series. A spot or two was botched during this match, and the crowd’s level of response was minimal. For the Cruiserweight Division’s sake, hopefully the title match on Sunday will be more of a crowd-pleaser.

The SmackDown women fight off Raw invaders

As Nikki Bella and Carmella were in the middle of a singles match, Raw Women’s Champion Charlotte Flair arrived with a ticket for a ringside seat. It wasn’t long before the star of Total Divas and Total Bellas — and the captain of the women for Team SmackDown — approached Charlotte. Dragging the opposing captain to the ring, the match was ruled a No Contest. Moments later, the ring filled with Charlotte’s teammates for Sunday, which prompted Nikki and Carmella’s partners to rush to the ring. Just like the men defended their home turf on Monday Night Raw, the team coached by Natalya held their ground against the red brand.

Team SmackDown won a 16-Man Tag Team Match

To help ensure that the rest of their team were on the same page for Sunday’s Survivor Series, team captains Rhyno and Heath Slater set up a 16-Man Tag Team Match, with opponents that included The Headbangers, The Vaudevillains, The Spirit Squad and The Ascension. American Alpha got the pin for their team, as they proved to their captains that they’re ready for the PPV in less than a week.

The Undertaker interrupted The Cutting Edge

As the “Rated-R Superstar” was hosting The Cutting Edge with every member of the blue brand’s 5-on-5 Men’s Traditional Elimination Match, the proceedings were interrupted by The Undertaker. Delivering a somewhat cryptic message, the Dead Man said that he will no longer be defined by WrestleMania, that SmackDown is Undertaker’s home, and that Team Raw had better “rest in peace” at Survivor Series. What this means for the future of The Undertaker and his WWE career is unclear, but it certainly seems like a good indication that he’s more than ready to start working towards his in-ring return, possibly sooner than WrestleMania 33.

Talking Smack on the WWE Network

Renee Young and Daniel Bryan hosted Talking Smack once again, although the General Manager was running a few seconds late after stopping to hug The Undertaker. They were joined first by the women’s team, who were still elated after holding their own against the red brand’s onslaught from earlier in the show. This is when it was revealed that Nikki Bella busted her tooth in the brawl. Soon after the women left, The Miz and Maryse came on the show to rub it in Daniel’s face that he won the WWE Intercontinental Championship.

Before Talking Smack ended, Edge joined Renee and Daniel. He had plenty to say about feeling that there has always been something special about the blue brand and how much he enjoyed being a part of the 900th episode of SmackDown. James Ellsworth even stopped by to get in a five-second pose with Edge before the show ended.

The above SmackDown Live results have been corroborated by WWE’s official SmackDown Live page.
