‘Pokemon Sun’ And ‘Moon’: First Leaks From The Actual Game Reveal Fabled Starter Secret

The first leaks from an actual play-through of Pokemon Sun and Moon have finally leaked! They are revealing everything a Pokemon fan could want to know, including the much-speculated secret harbored by the starters.

Pokemon Sun and Moon leaks have become a relatively common sight since the games were announced back in February. Some have been real and many more have been fake, but none of them have been derived from actual screenshots of a full Sun and Moon play-through. Until now, that is.

[SPOILER WARNING: CONTINUE AT YOUR OWN RISK]

iDigital Times reports that some unidentified source somehow got their hands on a working copy of Pokemon Sun or Moon and is now posting photos of the game to sites across the net. SegmentNext speculates that the copy now being leaked is probably one of the games recently sent out for review purposes. However, because the leaks are only being posted on completely anonymous forums like 4chan, it is impossible to tell exactly who is causing the hubbub.

Anyway, down to the good stuff: the content of the leak.

Maybe the most exciting part of the leak for many Pokemon fans is the reveal of the by-now-infamous “starter secret.” Back on in mid-June, reported the Inquisitr at the time, Corocoro, a Japanese gaming magazine that has long been a go-to source for Pokemon game reveals, said that the three Pokemon Sun and Moon starters had a secret. It was also thought at the time that the starters shared the secret with the rock type dog Pokemon Rockruff, but that turned out to be a mistranslation.

Since then, theories about the secret the three starter Pokemon shared have abounded. Would they each get mega evolutions? Would their evolution lines be split? None of the popular theories would turn out to be true. Instead, a leaked screenshot of Decidueye, the final grass starter evolution, shows the Pokemon is holding the item “Decidium Z” and has its own unique Z-move called “Sinister Arrow Raid.” This strongly indicates that all three starter Pokemon final evolutions will have their own unique Z-crystals and Z-moves, which would be the secret they share.

To a competitive Pokemon player, the unique item Decidueye can be seen holding might not be as interesting as its stats. It is extremely slow and has insanely high HP. It also has fairly high defenses and balanced attack, making it a very tanky, defensive Pokemon. This was definitely not expected after it was revealed that Decidueye’s design was based off a ninja/archer/assassin, and Pokemon-themed Youtuber Verlisify even muses that lots of Pokemon players who had planned to pick Rowlet as their starter in Pokemon Sun or Moon might be persuaded to change by Decidueye’s supposedly lackluster stats.

Just the Decidueye screenshot is far from the only thing already revealed in the new Pokemon Sun and Moon leak, though. Many previously unannounced final evolutions were photographed, complete with the Pokemon’s names. A few very important story details were also revealed. Several of the most interesting leaked details from a casual Pokemon fan’s perspective are listed below.

  • Pikipek, the regional bird of Pokemon Sun and Moon, evolves into a Pokemon called Trumbeak at level 14 and a Pokemon called Toucanon later on.
  • Wimpod’s only evolution is called Golisopod.
  • Salandit works like the generation four Pokemon Combee in that it will evolve only if it is female. In that case, it evolves at level 33 into a Pokemon called Salazzle.
  • The spider-looking Pokemon only found in the Pokemon Sun and Moon data leak is called Dewpider and is a water/bug type.
  • Morelull’s evolution is named Shiinotic, a clever combination of “Shiitake” (a Japanese mushroom) and “hypnotic.”
  • Alolan Dugtrio is a ground/steel type Pokemon, the first one since generation five’s Excadrill.
  • You can see pictures of all the mentioned Pokemon in a Reddit post that is linked below.

And here are a few tidbits that may be of more interest to a competitive Pokemon player.

  • Toucanon, Pikipek’s final evolution, has high attack and low speed. He also has some rock type moves in his movepool, which is interesting for a regional bird Pokemon.
  • Lurantis, Wishiwashi, and Gumshoos all have high attack and low speed.
  • Salazzle (salandit’s evolution) and Lycanrock (midday form) both have very high speed stats.

The groundbreaking Pokemon Sun and Moon leak itself can be viewed in a Reddit post here.

There is very little chance these leaks could be inauthentic, although we will only find out for sure when Pokemon Sun and Moon are released on November 18. What Do you think of the newly revealed details? Make yourself heard in the comments section below!

And as always, Train On, Pokemon fans.
