‘The Walking Dead’ Season 7 Spoilers: Rick, Daryl, And Maggie’s Fate According To ‘TWD’ EP Greg Nicotero

The Walking Dead Season 7 spoilers say that Negan and his crew will be the ones under the spotlight on tonight’s episode titled “The Cell” but TWD showrunner Greg Nicotero reveals what the future holds for some of the show’s remaining survivors.

Speaking to Entertainment Weekly, the executive producer and director of AMC’s top rated post-apocalyptic TV series revealed what is in store for Rick, Daryl, and Maggie moving forward amidst Negan’s killing spree.

While he may not have intended to do so, Nicotero unwittingly revealed The Walking Dead Season 7 spoilers during the conversation.

In the past episode, Rick Grimes (Andrew Lincoln) was depicted to be in a vulnerable place as Negan puts him in a submissive place. According to Nicotero, The Walking Dead Season 7 will showcase the side of one of the show’s protagonists and bada** heroes that has never been shown before.

“He’s destroyed. The entire point of the episode was to see the most uncomfortable thing you could ever see, which is our hero reduced to utter subservience and knowing that that’s the guy. Rick is the one who says, ‘They don’t know who they’re f—ing with,’ or ‘I’m going to kill you.'”

The TWD showrunner then explains that Negan’s submission tactics which basically entails putting guns to each of Rick’s friends heads and killing them one by one in front of him had achieved the intended effect.

“It just broke him, and knowing that Rick is completely and utterly devastated and utterly lost moving forward to me is the most interesting part of where the series is going.”

Of course, not all the Alexandrians are in the same boat as Rick. While all of them are subjected to torture both physically and emotionally, they have differing reactions to Negan’s terrorism.

In fact, Nicotero revealed as much particularly when it comes to Maggie Greene (Lauren Cohan) whose anger turned to courage to fight after witnessing the love of her life, fan-favorite character Glenn Rhee (Steven Yeun), get killed in the most brutal way.

“I don’t know if it’s the final step, but she just watched her husband murdered in front of her. That’s clearly going to have a different effect on her than on anybody else in that regard.”

The Walking Dead Season 7 spoilers proved as much especially those that revealed how Maggie will avenge Glenn’s death.

Meanwhile, Nicotero explained that Daryl Dixon (Norman Reedus) will be in a difficult place after he jumped in to save Rosita which led to Glenn’s death.

“Daryl is the guy that would take a bullet for anybody. The reason he leapt out of that line was because Negan was bullying Rosita. The way he was standing in front of her screaming at her and shoving that bloody baseball bat in her face, he wasn’t going to take it.”

Of course, considering what that led to, Nicotero admitted that there’s no way around the guilt that is eating Daryl up for the consequences of his actions.

Reedus also chimed in on what Daryl is feeling after what happened to Glenn in a separate interview with EW.

“He goes into a very dark place. He completely takes the weight of that and just carries that with him. He never forgives himself and he takes full responsibility.”

However, Reedus admitted that while Daryl is remorseful for Glenn’s death, his action was still heroic.

The Walking Dead Season 7 spoilers remain at center stage as AMC releases a short and concise synopsis of TWD Episode 3.

“We’re introduced to a completely new group of survivors living in an impressive community that seems to have it all… for a price.”

The Walking Dead Season 7 airs every Sunday on AMC at 9/8c.
