The Walking Dead Season 7 started off with one of the most brutal episodes of all time. The entrance of super villain Negan into the show had a great impact on Rick and his group, as well as viewers, as two fan-favorite characters were viciously killed off. So, what can fans expect for the remainder of Season 7?
According to The Hollywood Reporter, while The Walking Dead may stray from its comic book companion at times, it does follow the basic story of the original work. With that being said, it is likely that many comic book storylines will play out during Season 7.
In the comics, the group has a very hard time dealing with the loss of Glenn, who was killed at the hands of Negan. Maggie blames Rick for getting her husband killed and physically assaults him. It gets so bad that Carl is forced to pull a gun on Maggie to protect his father. Something similar to this could play out on the show. However, it is much more likely that Maggie would blame Daryl for Glenn’s death since his actions in the series are what caused Negan to kill a second victim after brutally murdering Abraham.
Meanwhile, the comics reveal that Rick is desperate to get Maggie to the Hilltop, which is what he thinks Glenn would have wanted. On the series, Rick has already shown his concern for Maggie’s health during her pregnancy, and the episode ended with the gang seemingly headed to the Hilltop to see the doctor. The Walking Dead comic book fans know that Maggie decides to leave Alexandria where she lived with Glenn and move to the Hilltop. Maggie thrives there and eventually becomes the leader of the people in the Hilltop community. While nothing of this sort has happened on the show yet, many fans believe that Season 7 will set up for Maggie to become the leader she’s meant to be.
In the comics, Rick returns to Alexandria with the bad news of Glenn’s death and tells all of the people who reside there that Negan is now in charge. This will happen on the show as well as the preview for the second episode of Season 7 has already been released, and shows Rick telling the Alexandria residents about the new world order. Of course, the people will be a bit confused and not at all happy about what they’re hearing. Spencer, in particular, will seemingly be the most outspoken about Negan’s presence in their lives, and Walking Dead fans could see this cause big trouble for Rick down the road. However, Rick will be doing a little digging behind everyone’s backs to find out some information on Negan to possibly use in the future.
Meanwhile, comic book Carl takes matters into his own hands when he sees that Rick seems content with the new way of life. Carl kills some members of the Saviors but is eventually caught by Negan. While this could mean death for Carl, a surprising turn of events happen. Negan is impressed with Carl’s courage and the two eventually develop a strange bond/friendship with one another. It may be that Negan sees a bit of himself in Carl, and the friendship is not something that Rick will want for his son. This scenario could also play out on the TV show. However, another character could take the storyline and become friendly with Negan instead. Some fans believe that Daryl may actually be the one to develop a bond with the villain, and that could cause another mess within Rick’s group. Daryl is Rick’s closest living friend and the person whom he can depend on to have his back.
What are your thoughts on the latest Walking Dead Season 7 spoilers? Do you think it will play out like the comic book series?
