Lamar Odom Is In A Good Place One Year After Near-Fatal Drug Overdose

Lamar Odom is reportedly doing well one year after a drug overdose nearly took his life.

On October 13, 2015, Lamar Odom’s time at a Nevada brothel nearly turned deadly when the NBA star was discovered unconscious after partying with numerous women at the facility. Right away, rumors began swirling in regard to his possible death, and his ongoing progress was not good.

Luckily, however, days after falling into a coma, Lamar Odom woke up and began to communicate with his doctors and his then-wife, Khloe Kardashian, who traveled to Nevada to be with him as soon as she heard the news of his overdose. The former professional athlete was then relocated to Los Angeles for treatment at the Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in West Hollywood, which is close to Kardashian and her family’s Calabasas homes. Three months later, Lamar Odom was released from the hospital and moved into a home near his wife’s family that was rented for him by Kardashian.

While Lamar Odom’s recovery appeared to be going well for the first several weeks after he was released from the hospital, he seemed to fall off the wagon in late March. By April, Kardashian had reportedly cut ties with Odom and kicked him out of the home she rented for him. One month later, Kardashian filed for divorce, and over the summer — years after their initial separation in 2013 — their divorce was finalized.

Since the couple officially parted ways, Khloe Kardashian has been dating Tristan Thompson of the Cleveland Cavaliers, while Lamar Odom has been spotted in New York City and Los Angeles. Although the former Los Angeles Lakers player was believed to have relocated to NYC full-time over the summer to be closer to his kids, Destiny and Lamar Jr., he has since returned to Los Angeles and is said to be doing well.

Although it has been a rocky road to recovery, a source told People on October 13 that Lamar Odom “seems to be in a good place.”

After his overdose, Lamar Odom was suffering from cognitive impairment, speech problems, and kidney damage, and he was unable to walk on his own. Now, he is said to be striving for a healthy lifestyle in hopes of returning to work one day.

“[Lamar Odom]’s life has become a lot more quiet. He is moving back to L.A. from N.Y. and away from some bad influences. He knows he needs to be in a good place to stay healthy. A lot of what happened last year is a blur for Lamar but he knows he almost didn’t make it. There are so many people still rooting for Lamar — he’s a good guy,” a source told the magazine. “But it’s been very hard for him to keep his demons in check. He’s had a hard life.”

“Now, Lamar seems to be in a good place. He wants to work again and he wants to be healthy. Everyone who cares about Lamar hopes there won’t be any scares again,” the source added.

As for his relationship with his ex-wife, another source claimed the former couple remains estranged.

“Khloe and [Lamar Odom] have not spoken in months. It just got to be too hard,” the second source told the magazine. “She will always care about him, but she had to finally move on and make herself happy.”
