Shin Min Ah: Korean Actress In K-Drama ‘Tomorrow With You’ Revealed To Have Donated $1 Million To Charity Over Past 8 Years

When it comes to K-dramas, most of its popularity the genre has today started eight-years-ago in 2009, thanks to Hallyu or the Korean Wave. Prior to Hallyu’s impact, there have been numerous Korean actors and actresses paving the way to make K-dramas the way they are currently. One such actress is Shin Min Ah. Starting with her initial roles in Beautiful Days and Volcano High, Min Ah’s career spans more than a decade and includes lead roles in popular K-dramas My Girlfriend is a Nine-Tailed Fox and Arang and the Magistrate.

The last couple of years, however, have been quite busy for Shin Min Ah both professionally and personally. Pertaining to the former, Min Ah played Kang Joo Eun in Oh My Venus opposite So Ji Sub. The Korean Broadcasting System (KBS) K-drama, which started back in November of 2015 and concluded in January this year, did okay in viewership despite its star power. This was very similar to the Seoul Broadcasting System (SBS) drama, The Time We Were Not In Love. Personally, it was revealed Min Ah was in a relationship with Kim Woo Bin, the male lead of Uncontrollably Fond.

Now Shin Min Ah is in the news yet again but for something very positive and very humanitarian. It was revealed that Min Ah had donated over $1 million over the past eight years.

The news was first made known through Korean news outlet OSEN. According to Soompi, who translated the source, Shin Min Ah donated a total of 1.4 billion won (over $1.2 million USD) over a period of eight years. Min Ah has donated to numerous causes for education, health care support for disadvantaged children, heating costs for elderly people living alone, and support for women and children among the refugees from North Korea.

Shin Min Ah’s recent act of humanitarianism was assisting in building a school in Nepal for a disadvantaged neighborhood. According to AllKpop, Min Ah teamed up with Join Together Society (JTS) to help build an elementary school and middle school in place of a previous school which collapsed.

Though many Hallyu stars, especially those who work in entertainment, are known for their humanitarian efforts, Shin Min Ah now joins a small list of those who go above-and-beyond in their giving and charity, which includes Song Joong Ki, Suzy of Miss A, and Yoo Jae Suk.

The personal news of Shin Min Ah, who was revealed to have donated over $1 million over the course of eight years came just after the professional news she would play the female lead in the upcoming Total Variety Network K-drama, Tomorrow With You. Details about the upcoming K-drama were first revealed back on August 10 by tvN. It is self-described as a “sweet and savage family romance” centered around a time traveler and his wife. Yoo Jaw Won, the director of Oh My Ghostess and King of High School, will be directing. Filming is currently underway as it started back in September because tvN plans for Tomorrow With You to be its first K-drama to air in 2017, taking over the 9:30 p.m. KST time slot for Friday and Saturday, which is currently occupied by The K2. However, Tomorrow With You will air after the upcoming K-drama after The K2 titled Goblin, starring Gong Yoo and Lee Dong Wook.
