WWE News: What Happened With Roman Reigns And Kevin Owens At Last Night’s ‘Raw’?

Any time Roman Reigns enters the ring, he always makes the top story on the WWE news report. And last night, of course, was no different: after last night’s Raw went off the air, Reigns’ fight for the Universal Championship continued as he teamed up with Enzo and Big Cass to take on Kevin Owens, Chris Jericho, and Rusev!

That’s according to Wrestling, Inc., who was on hand in Los Angeles last night to bring us this interesting bit of WWE news. In the first part of the match, Owens and his band of heels had the upper hand, but by the time the fight was over, the faces — led, of course, by Roman Reigns — had the upper hand. Needless to say, Reigns was responsible for the faces’ win, after he’d speared and pinned his longtime arch-nemesis Rusev. This off-camera fight ended in a strange way: as the faces celebrated the win, Chris Jericho gave Kevin Owens a kiss on the cheek!

Granted, this newfound alliance between Chris Jericho and Kevin Owens is nothing if not suspect, because it’s just preparing us for the inevitable betrayal that Jericho will give to Owens if it means getting a shot at Owens’ title belt. Still, it should be interesting to see how this plays out in the coming weeks.

But last night’s off camera fight, according to Bleacher Report, was the WWE’s way of announcing yet another piece of exciting WWE news: Roman Reigns and Rusev will continue their rivalry in a just-announced WWE Hell in a Cell Pay-Per-View match! The fight, which is set to take place on October 30th in Boston, will see Roman Reigns and Rusev face off (again) for the United States Championship title, which Reigns promised to put on the line last night during Raw.

While some in the wrestling world see this as a good sign that Reigns will go for the Universal Championship belt come the Royal Rumble — or, at the very latest, WrestleMania — others view this as a further bad sign for Raw. As it stands right now, the two top fighters in Raw are Roman Reigns and Kevin Owens — and their story lines are nothing if not tired and misdirected. Bleacher Report‘s Mike Chiari, in fact, stated that this continuing battle between Reigns and Rusev only existed “because Raw has no other options,” and that this continuing battle is only going to spell further downfall for the Raw brand.

Still, other wrestling commentators view this bit of WWE news as a good thing for the floundering Raw brand. What Culture is reporting that the plans for the big “double turn” between Roman Reigns and his former Shield partner, Seth Rollins, have been shelved… for now. It seems that WWE executives agree with fans of both wrestlers: the two have been horribly miscast, and their careers are suffering for it. As it stands now, however, both of them are on the “face” path, with Roman Reigns already turning face, and Seth Rollins heading down that path.

Executives were debating whether one, or both, of these stars should turn heel, but they ultimately decided that keeping them on the face path was the more viable alternative. After all, they both could turn heel somewhere down the line, especially if the promised rematch between Seth Rollins and Triple H takes place at the Royal Rumble or WrestleMania. And the company knows that both of these fighters make much better heels than faces anyway — and a double-turn would prove very beneficial for both the company and the Raw brand.
