‘Married At First Sight’ Season 4 Spoilers: Are Derek and Heather Still Friends After The Divorce?

Married At First Sight Season 4 couple Derek Schwartz and Heather Seidel made MAFS history when they decided to get a divorce even before the six-week social experiment was over. Although Derek expressed his desire to stay married, Heather made it clear that she wanted to get out of the relationship as soon as possible.

In the latest episode of Married At First Sight Season 4, “To Have and to Hold,” Heather asked Derek for a divorce, explaining that she does not see a future with him. Even when Derek tried to reach out to her after the disastrous honeymoon, Heather was convinced that things are not going to get better between them.

“I’m really sorry about how things have gone. I don’t think you’re a bad person at all, and I’m sorry that I can’t move forward with you. I cannot be married to you, and I hope that you understand that,” she told Derek during their counseling session with Pastor Calvin Roberson.

Although clearly disappointed with her decision, Derek wished Heather the best of luck. It, however, does not look like the two are still going to be friends after this. In his video diary, Derek admitted that he felt humiliated by Heather.

“What was it about me that was so bad, so unbearable to Heather where she wanted to quit and walk away from this marriage so soon?” he wondered.

Derek made it clear that he went on Married At First Sight to find a wife, and staying friends with Heather after the divorce is the “last thing on his mind.” He, however, added that he is not the type of person who holds grudges and could eventually forgive Heather in time.

With Heather asking for a divorce after only two weeks of being married, Derek felt that he had been somewhat cheated. The 35-year-old added that he has lost an “opportunity at love, lost an opportunity to learn about another person and learn about myself.”

In an interview with The Knot, Derek shared that he felt “emotionally drained” while waiting for Heather’s decision. Without the support of his family and friends, he said that he would not be able to deal with all the stress.

Derek could not believe that they went from getting married to talking about getting a divorce in one week. While the Married At First Sight experts, especially Pastor Cal, tried to help them save their marriage, Derek cannot help but wonder if his wife kept an open mind throughout the whole experiment. He pointed out that Heather judged him too quickly and stopped trying to learn about him as soon as the honeymoon began.

Despite getting the quickest divorce in Married At First Sight history, Derek said that he still believes in marriage. He added that being on the show, talking to the experts, made him appreciate relationships even more.

“My thoughts and feelings on marriage have changed and all for the better despite our difficulties early on. I never thought marriage was going to be easy, but now I see why people are willing to work so hard for it.”

On his Twitter, Derek Schwartz thanked Married At First Sight Season 4 fans for their support. He added that being on MAFS brought him “so much joy” and he would not change anything. Their MAFS Season 4 co-stars Lillian Vilchez and Tom Wilson also took to Twitter to console Derek after the divorce.
