WWE News: Randy Orton To Fight Bray Wyatt At ‘Backlash’ 2016?

With Backlash just four days away, the WWE news wires are working overtime to get the word out and get fans excited for the upcoming fights. Fans have been anxiously awaiting the return of Randy Orton since the day he was brutalized in the ring by Brock Lesnar during SummerSlam, and now, it seems they just might get their chance to see their hero in action when Backlash airs!

That’s according to The Morning Ledger, whose latest WWE news suggest that Randy Orton will be revived in the ring by Bray Wyatt. While Wyatt’s history with the organization is a little sketchy at best, mainly because they were never really sure how to promote him, and this match doesn’t have a lot of promotional hype behind it, the match definitely has a promising feel to it.

Besides, at this point in his career, Randy Orton needs to recover his reputation. The once-indomitable viper is currently at two wins and two losses in the WWE, a far cry from where he used to be in his heyday. And while it’s questionable whether a win against Wyatt will guarantee a rematch against Lesnar, which is what Orton is aiming for, it’s definitely a fight that’s needed for Orton to gain some level of redemption and restore his reputation.

But other WWE news suggests that this match between Orton and Wyatt is actually good for both wrestlers. Forbes Magazine has been getting into the wrestling game as of late, and they feel that Wyatt, like Dolph Ziggler, is one of the most under-utilized superstars in the ring today. Aside from his technical prowess as a wrestler, he’s also taken on some of the biggest names in the game.

Wrestlers like John Cena, Dean Ambrose, Kane, and Chris Jericho are just a few of the many superstars that have gone up against Wyatt. Even though each match has had mixed results, the high profile level of each of those names should have raised Wyatt’s profile, in turn. And yet, not only does he wallow in relative obscurity, especially when compared to the superstars he’s fought, he has yet to even be considered for a championship title, let alone compete for one.

For this reason, the fight against Orton is an important one. If nothing else, it will establish Wyatt as a contender again.

But Bleacher Report has a different take on this bit of news about the Orton vs. Wyatt match at Backlash. The respected sports site took an in-depth look at the upcoming match, which is happening thanks to Wyatt’s “Sermon of the Serpent” during SmackDown, and they believe that it’s Wyatt who will resurrect Orton’s career, not the other way around.

Even though Orton was involved in a short-lived campaign against the Wyatt family before his shoulder forced him to the sidelines for nine months, he has otherwise avoided the young Wyatt. Further adding to the need for Wyatt and Orton to fight at Backlash is the fact that Orton is in the twilight of his career, while Wyatt still has a long way to go before he can even think of retiring at just 29-years-old.

Because Orton has a lot to prove thanks to his recent losses, not the least of which being the loss against Brock Lesnar which, admittedly, is a bit controversial, proving that he can best one of the young superstars will prove that he’s still got what it takes to be called “The Viper” once again.
