DNC Day 2: Bill Clinton Prepares Speech Amid Protests In Philadelphia About Bernie Sanders

Democratic National Convention kicked off yesterday with much fury. Bernie Sanders said that he is proud to stand with Hillary Clinton, Elizabeth Warren gave a stirring anti-Trump speech, and Michelle Obama stole the night with her emotional speech. DNC Day 2 is looking just as dramatic, with Bill Clinton preparing to give his speech amid growing protests in Philadelphia.

On DNC Day 2, Bill Clinton is about to make history as a potential first gentleman in the White House. He is expected to give a speech he wrote to fully endorse his wife, Hillary Clinton, as the future POTUS.

“A spokesman for Bill Clinton said the former president was busy at work Monday working on his speech – which he is writing himself – at his hotel in Philadelphia,” reports CBS News. “Mr. Clinton is speaking two days ahead of his wife, in what marks a major role reversal for the former first couple.”

Bill Clinton giving a speech at the DNC will possibly bring out the human side to the Democratic candidate. He will likely share anecdotes and funny stories that help the American people connect with Hillary like never before.

However, with Bill Clinton giving a speech as a former president about a former first lady running for the presidency on DNC Day 2, dynamics are going to be very different. Many Democrats are waiting to see what tactics he will use in his speech to rouse a sense of support for Hillary.

While Bill Clinton is preparing his speech, protests in Philadelphia are still a possibility on DNC Day 2. During the first day of the Democratic National Convention, protests grew, with people holding signs such as “Never Hillary” or “Bernie or Bust.” However, with Senator Bernie Sanders endorsing Hillary Clinton, these may die down.

“Bernie Sanders on Monday led an orchestrated attempt by Democratic leaders to pull their party together, but simmering anger among his die-hard supporters proved that Democratic unity will be a work in progress,” reports CNN.

Many of Bernie’s supporters were present on the convention floor when he gave his speech, their mouths taped over with words like “Silenced by the DNC.”

In fact, on DNC Day 2, the roll call could get noisy, with Bernie Sanders supporters still showing that they are ready to fight.

“The roll call vote of each state, which is going to take place late this afternoon, is going to pose and even bigger opportunity for any disgruntled Sanders voters to show their displeasure,” reports ABC News.

“Any objective observer will conclude that — based on her ideas and her leadership — Hillary Clinton must become the next president of the United States,” Bernie Sanders said last night.

Many publications, including the Washington Post, are forecasting the protests in Philadelphia to not let up on DNC Day 2.

“More protests are expected Tuesday,” reports the Washington Post. “The unhappiness of the Sanders supporters could prove a challenge for Democratic leaders hoping to pull off a unified convention, something the Republicans were unable to do last week.”

While the protests are bigger than they have been during last week’s Republican National Convention, “there have not been significant reports of violence,” according to ABC News

One of the things that fueled the protests in Philadelphia has been due to the leaked emails of Debbie Wasserman Schultz, the party chairperson of the DNC. She was supposed to gavel in the convention last night, but with the drama surrounding her and her prompt resignation, she was replaced.

But the thunderstorm, as well as the oppressive heat, yesterday evening might have played a role in suppressing some of the protests that happened outside of the stadium, breaking up crowds that would have grown if not for the flash flood warnings.

Mothers of the Movement is on the docket to give a speech on DNC Day 2 as well, with “Trayvon Martin’s mom Sybrina Fulton, Michael Brown’s mother Lezley McSpadden and Eric Garner’s mother Gwen Carr” posed to fully support Hillary Clinton, according to ABC News.
