‘The Walking Dead’ Season 7: Getting Inside Negan’s Head [Spoilers]

The Walking Dead Season 7 trailer will be unveiled at Comic-Con in just a few weeks. Fans are looking forward to getting a glimpse of what can be expected when the zombie apocalypse series returns to AMC. Everyone knows that Negan will be a major storyline in TWD, but how much will viewers learn about Jeffrey Dean Morgan’s character? It seems that not only will fans meet Negan and learn what he is all about, but there is a chance of getting inside his head as well.

Warning: The Walking Dead Season 7 spoilers are ahead.

During the Season 6 finale of TWD, Negan made his big introduction. It was the moment fans had been waiting for. However, by the end of the episode, some viewers were disappointed and even angry. Negan used his barbed wire baseball bat, Lucille, on someone, but the identity of the victim was not revealed. Fans were not happy that The Walking Dead ended on a cliffhanger and that they would have to wait several months to find out who Negan killed.

It has been a long wait, but it is nearly over. In just a few months, Season 7 will premiere on AMC. Almost just as exciting is Comic-Con, which takes place in just a few weeks. At the convention, the trailer for the upcoming season will be released. Until fans are able to see the trailer, what is already known about Negan’s storyline?

According to ComicBook.com, fans will get inside Negan’s head. Those that have read The Walking Dead comic books already have an idea of what kind of man he is. However, those that only watch the television show really don’t know what to expect. For those individuals, hearing that some people are Team Negan is shocking.

It seems like Negan is the newest villain of TWD, but it isn’t as cut and dry as that. As previously reported by The Inquisitr, showrunner Scott Gimple teased that Negan really isn’t that bad of a guy. There is a reason Negan operates the way he does. His past experiences, losses, and dealing with a world with no rules factor into those decisions.

Remember, in the zombie apocalypse, there are different types of survivors. Being a nice guy does not keep people alive and like it has been stated before, the living are more dangerous than the dead. Also, some of the Saviors tend to follow their own rules when Negan isn’t nearby. As a leader, Negan sometimes has to dole out harsh punishments to teach the others what will not be tolerated. This isn’t to say that Negan’s actions always make sense, just that it makes him a little easier to understand.

Also, Jeffrey Dean Morgan made a good point in an interview with Variety. The actor said Rick Grimes (Andrew Lincoln) is getting off easy. As fans recall, Rick’s group killed a large number of the Saviors while they were sleeping. In his quest for vengeance, Negan is only picking one person to pay the price. After the big kill, Negan will have orders for Rick’s group. There will be consequences if those orders are not obeyed, so Rick needs to be very careful.

Will Negan’s storyline mimic the TWD comic books or will it go in a different direction?

“I try to not look at characters as if they’re sociopaths when I’m playing them,” Jeffrey Dean Morgan told TV Guide. “I think they’re completely rational human beings! That being said, [Negan’s] got his own motivations.”

The actor added that as far as he knows, the storyline on television is going to be parallel to the comics.

What do you think is going on inside Negan’s head? Are you looking forward to learning his side of the story when The Walking Dead Season 7 premieres this fall? Did Rick do the right thing or are you Team Negan?
