Maksim Chmerkovskiy And Peta Murgatroyd To Wed In NYC Next Summer
Maksim Chmerkovskiy and Peta Murgatroyd are finally spilling some details about their upcoming wedding. The Dancing With the Stars mirrorball champs told E! News that after toying with the idea of a destination wedding, they plan to tie the knot in New York City next July instead.
Peta revealed that while she and Maksim have their wedding location and date set, they haven’t yet started their guest list yet. But Maksim Chmerkovskiy made it clear that it will be a supersized ceremony so no one feels left out.
“Our friend did a destination wedding last summer, and we had an amazing time, and we thought about this, let’s do it, let’s limit the guest list to whoever and people will make their way out,” Maksim told E! News. “Then we got engaged and threw a little get-together and it was 125 people. We didn’t even tell anybody. So 125 before any sort of invitations went out, made us feel like we might be…we don’t want to upset anybody.”
Maksim Chmerkovskiy went on to say that he and Peta want all of their family and friends to be able to attend their nuptials — and not just those who can afford to travel for a destination wedding.
“We want people to have a night to celebrate us and celebrate with us,” Chmerkovskiy said. “I know we have a lot of friends that were looking forward to that. We want to accommodate them as well, not everyone can afford a destination wedding.”
Early on, the pro dancing couple knew they’d stay in the States for their big day. Shortly after she got engaged, Murgatroyd told People last that her wedding to Maksim would probably be next year, but that it would definitely be in the U.S.
“We know that we want to do an East Coast wedding,” she said. “That’s about it. Probably in a year or something but that’s really all we’ve thought about.”
One thing that seems to have changed is the time of year the couple plans to exchange “I dos.” Peta previous told Us Weekly that the wedding would probably be in the fall or the spring.
“I don’t want it to be too hot or too cold,” she said earlier this year. “I think it will be an outdoor ceremony, so the weather is gonna be a huge part in it.”
While the guest list for Maksim Chmerkovskiy and Peta Murgatroyd’s wedding hasn’t been started yet, the couple changed their thinking about the timing of the big event so as not to interfere with Dancing with the Stars, which airs in the spring and the fall.
“We deliberately have it in July so it doesn’t conflict with any of the seasons, so we can bring our past partners and our troupe of dancers and stuff like that,” the bride-to-be told E! News. The pro dancer added that it’s probably time for her to start trying on some dresses and hire a wedding planner.
Chmerkovskiy and Murgatroyd also teased that their wedding reception might include some sort of surprise choreographed dance or show, which isn’t a shocker considering they’re both mirrorball-winning pros.
“I think we’re gonna have a fun rest of our lives, for sure,” Maksim said.
Maksim Chmerkovskiy also shared a cute story of how he was able to surprise Peta with that gorgeous diamond engagement ring, which he gave to her when he popped the question last December in front of an audience full of fans after a performance of SWAY: A Dance Trilogy in Miami.
“I’m actually partners in a jewelry company Cantamessa, beautiful jewelry makers out of Italy,” Chmerkovskiy told E! News. “I found the rock, and they designed the ring out of the factories in Italy, so I got really lucky with this whole process.”
While he got lucky with the design process for the sparkler, Maksim had to do some detective work to figure out her ring size without ruining his surprise. Chmerkovskiy revealed that he went through Peta’s phone and jewelry box to try to find clues, but he eventually had to tie a string around her finger while she was asleep to find the right size.
“It was a stealth mission,” Maksim said.
