In ever increasing numbers, Americans have attempted to make major changes by moving away from the trappings of civilization and by taking up an off-the-grid lifestyle. This popular movement gained momentum during the last decade, and for hundreds of families who attempt such a move, they quickly discover this type of venture is easier said than done. Pop Tower shared that Homestead Rescue will feature expert homesteader Marty Raney and his children as they travel across the country teaching struggling homesteaders the necessary skills to survive the wilderness. The family brings a myriad of skills and knowledge to each homestead rescue, and Marty's daughter Misty is a farmer and architect. Just a few of things she will be able to teach the families on Homestead Rescue are invaluable lessons on how to grow food and raise livestock. Marty's son Matt is an expert hunter and fisherman, and the Homestead Rescue families will find it essential to learn from him so they will be able to successfully live off the land.
According to Broadway World, although the stakes for the Homestead Rescue families are high, Marty and his family are determined to properly prepare and educate these Homestead Rescue families so they can face whatever nature throws their way and still be able to not just survive, but also thrive off the grid. Even the most resourceful and determined homesteaders often find out the hard way that they are not ready for that first grueling winter, monsoon, or drought season.
Each week, the Raneys will work with a new Homestead Rescue family, teaching them how to sustain and maintain their homestead through hunting, fishing, gardening, building maintenance, protection, and problem solving. The Raneys will strive to give each Homestead Rescue family a second chance to succeed and will equip the Homestead Rescue families with the skills, experience, and knowledge they may lack. In the end, the Homestead Rescue families should be able to grow food, find water, harness power, and deal with the wildlife that surrounds them. Ultimately, each Homestead Rescue family will have to decide if they will be able to tough it out, applying everything they have learned from the Raney family, or they may decide to give it all up and return to civilization.
Over the years, the Raney family has lived without power, water, plumbing, or heat. Living off the land is an important aspect of the Raney family's lifestyle and a big part of their family tradition. Living without modern conveniences can build character, inspire creativity and ingenuity, encourage resourcefulness, and foster an appreciation for the simple things in life. The Raneys have learned to live an artisan lifestyle, which they will share on Homestead Rescue. Over the years, they have learned to use the most basic of tools to build beautiful cabins, homes, and other structures. To them, this is what homesteading and off-grid construction is all about, and hopefully they can pass all their knowledge on to the Homestead Rescue families they work with.Marty Raney is no stranger to the camera, and fans of the show Ultimate Survival Alaska will recognize him. He isn't the first member of that show to snag a new series, however; Grady Powell just finished up his first season as co-host on Discovery's Dual Survival, and next season he will be the only host. According to Marty's website, he is also a mountain guide, and on a personal note, he is the only person known to carry his guitar to the top of Denali, where he played and sang from the highest point in North America. He is quite the musician, having created an impressive body of work, and his songs have found their way into radio, TV, and film.
Homestead Rescue is produced for Discovery by Raw Television with Mike Griffiths, Sam Maynard, and Dimitri Doganis serving as the executive producers. For Discovery, Matt Vafiadis serves as executive producer, with Meagan Davis as producer.
