It looks like Lauren Conrad is gearing up to return to her The Hills and Laguna Beach roots with what could be a new MTV reality show.
Lauren took to Instagram to tease her new project on May 25, where she shared a photo of herself looking into a camera lens as she as she fixed what appeared to be a bridesmaid’s dress at a wedding.
Conrad captioned her cryptic photo with the caption “Never thought I’d see the day….” and tagged both her fashion line Paper Crown and MTV, the network that originally aired Conrad’s past reality shows, Laguna Beach and The Hills, more than a decade ago.
MTV have so far stayed tight-lipped regarding what’s speculated to be a new reality show from Lauren, though MTV News described Conrad’s Instagram tease as being a “wonderfully mysterious image.”
The site also confirmed that the “network is not commenting” on the rumors of a new reality show involving Conrad at this point, but it did give a pretty big tease that both Lauren and MTV are gearing up for a big announcement about a possible new show next week.
“Be sure to check Lauren’s Twitter account on Tuesday, May 31 at 11amET/8amPT (an important date for one major reason) for exact details,” MTV News teased following Conrad’s Instagram post.
Although the site didn’t elaborate on that “important date,” May 31 is the exact date The Hills premiered back in 2006, which would mean Lauren’s reported upcoming announcement is set to fall on the 10-year anniversary of the reality show’s debut.
Lauren Conrad’s elusive Instagram post got Conrad’s fans seriously speculating about her potential new project on social media, with a slew of fans claiming that Lauren’s big tease all but confirmed that the fashion designer is working on a new reality show.
“Pretty sure Lauren Conrad is doing another reality show on MTV and that’s probably the best thing I’ve heard so far this year,” @Melxo_ tweeted out on May 25, while @ginabelllle speculated on the social media site, “@world is this @LaurenConrad’s way of breaking news of a new reality show to us?! #feelingsattack #sendhelp.”
“If Lauren Conrad is filming another MTV show I’m going 2 b 1 VERY HAPPY lady! She is 1 classy, intelligent, & beautiful woman #truerolemodel,” @gorjess1o23 added on the 140-character site, and @Ian323 tweeted, “THIS IS NOT A DRILL @LaurenConrad IS FILMING A NEW SHOW WITH @MTV.”
“Umm did @LaurenConrad just announce on insta she’s got a new show with @MTV..? #letsgoback,” @kat_richards also speculated on the social media site this week, and @_stylemuseum wrote, “Looks Like Lauren Conrad Might Not Stay Away From Reality TV Much Longer.”
Rumors have swirled that the network has been looking to team up with Lauren again ever since she left The Hills 2009, with MTV even confirming that Conrad had shot a pilot for a new reality show back in 2011.
David Janollari, Head of Programming for MTV, confirmed to Entertainment Weekly five years ago that MTV originally had plans to film a spin-off with Lauren about her blossoming career in the fashion world, but he admitted that the network had “decided not to go ahead” with the project, which was rumored to be more documentary style than a “glossy reality show.”
“We love her! We would love her on our network!” Janollari continued of Lauren Conrad to the site at the time, before noting that the proposed show “was a great attempt but it just didn’t feel like a perfect fit for us now,” which could suggest that Conrad’s solo project is now going forward five years after it was originally scheduled.
