It is time for the Season 22 Dancing with the Stars finale, but the weekend brought some upsetting news for Ginger Zee and Val Chmerkovskiy. The two have been anxious to hit the DWTS dance floor for their final performances in hopes of snagging the Mirrorball trophy, but Zee is injured and this puts their quest for the win in grave danger. It seems she has been battling some pain issues for a while now, but things have taken a turn that puts her ability to hit the stage for her final performances at risk.
As ABC News details, Ginger Zee’s injury issues began with back and pelvis issues earlier in the week. During the strenuous week of rehearsals with partner Val Chmerkovskiy, the Dancing with the Stars contestant started having lower back spasms at home, and during their rehearsals, the pain became significant enough to bring on tears as she got some help.
Zee worked with a physical therapist throughout the week, and it seems that Ginger’s pelvis injury is a result of it becoming “loose and unstable” due to the recent birth of her baby boy Adrian. The Dancing with the Stars contestant has been working with the physical therapist throughout the week, but her status to dance Monday night seemed somewhat uncertain. According to the DWTS physical therapist, Gina Minchella, Zee’s injury is called sacral instability with a lower back sprain.
Last year’s Dancing with the Stars winner, Bindi Irwin, went backstage for Good Morning America during Sunday’s rehearsals to chat with Ginger, Val, and the other finalists, and Bindi asked Zee and Chmerkovskiy for a status update on the injury. Troupe member Jenna Johnson had been rehearsing with Chmerkovskiy during camera blocking and such over the weekend, but it sounds as if the DWTS competitors are determined to take the stage Monday night for their performances.
Dancing with the Stars spoilers detail that Ginger and Val are slated to do both a jazz dance and their freestyle during the May 23 show, with a fusion piece to come during Tuesday’s episode. Zee and Chmerkovskiy are up against Nyle DiMarco and Peta Murgatroyd along with Paige VanZant and Mark Ballas, and it will be a tough battle as the final three couples fight to become the Season 22 winners. She may be determined to dance Monday night, but it sounds as if her status due to this injury is a bit more uncertain than she perhaps would like to acknowledge.
Will Ginger and Val be able to dance as planned Monday night, or could their journey to snag the Mirrorball trophy come to an unfortunate end due to her pelvis injury? It’s going to be a fierce fight to the finish in this Season 22 finale, and DWTS fans certainly do not want to see anybody lose at this late stage due to an injury. Monday’s show brings the redemption performances and the freestyles, with the fusion pieces and numerous guest appearances set to air on Tuesday’s episode. All of the previously-eliminated DWTS celebrities from Season 22 will be back Tuesday to perform again as well, and these will be two jam-packed nights of dance.
Fans may not get confirmation of Ginger and Val’s status until Monday’s show begins, and even then, it sounds as if she will have a tough battle ahead of her if she does perform. Will Ginger Zee’s injury affect her chances to win Season 22 of Dancing with the Stars? Will Nyle DiMarco or Paige VanZant be able to top her to take home the Mirrorball trophy? Fans cannot wait to see how this DWTS finale plays out, as there should be some remarkable routines ahead given the strength of these three finalists this spring.
