‘Peaky Blinders’ Set To Stream On Netflix In Late May

The Shelby family of Peaky Blinders appear to be climbing on the social ladder of 1920s London society, but they are still not afraid to use their fists to get what they want. The third season of the British gangster drama sees Tommy Shelby, played by Cillian Murphy, expanding his empire.

“There is hell, and there is another place below hell” is the statement voiced by Murphy as the Peaky Blinders trailer starts playing. The new season debuted on BBC Two earlier this month, but Netflix subscribers can watch the six-episode season starting on May 31.

There are many familiar faces returning to the period drama, along with new characters. Murphy, Helen McCrory, Paul Anderson, Sophie Rundle, and Joe Cole return as characters of the Shelby family. Annabelle Wallis also returns in Season 3, playing Tommy Shelby’s love interest Grace Burgess.

Another familiar face that Peaky Blinders fans will enjoy seeing again is The Revenant’s Tom Hardy as the Jewish Gang Leader Alfie Solomons. Hardy’s violent and unpredictable character came to the series during the second season, and it looks like Solomons isn’t going to be left out of the latest drama.

New characters will debut in the new season that appear to be thorns in Tommy Shelby’s side, as reported by Rolling Stone. The antagonists to Shelby include a manipulative duchess, an exiled White Russian with a brutal side, a priest that keeps a killer dog, and a powerful figure with British government ties.

The trailer includes several scenes featured in Peaky Blinders third season that include several fights and gun play. There is an amusing scene during the last seconds of the trailer: Tommy Shelby telling the men in his family “no fighting!” and then shoving a poor waiter out of his way before the trailer ends.

People who are not familiar with the British crime drama series can catch up with the first two seasons on Netflix. Each season runs for six episodes, with the series starting at the end of World War I in Birmingham, Great Britain in 1919.

The Peaky Blinders series is based on the real Peaky Blinders gang, a criminal urban youth gang that ran around in Birmingham in the late 19th century. The gang supposedly came up with their name due to the fact that the members wore flat caps with peaks, according to a Birmingham Mail article.

Cillian Murphy’s Tommy Shelby is the leader of the Peaky Blinders gang and a former Sergeant Major of the British Army during WWI. Both Tommy and his older brother Arthur served in the war and both suffered from what is now known as post-traumatic stress disorder.

The first season focuses on the Shelby family rising up to power through their gambling ring and dealing with firearms while trying to keep the authorities at bay. The second season’s storyline begins two years after the first season’s events, with Tommy trying to expand his empire past Birmingham and into London.

The third season of Peaky Blinders begins in 1924, with the Shelby family navigating through the upper class of London, but not without obstacles. Tommy Shelby is still trying to keep his empire afloat and not let his enemies take his entire family down.

Fans of the series can keep up with the series through its social media accounts. The Peaky Blinders’ Instagram account shows many behind-the-scenes images and short clips taken from the episodes.
