Liverpool Vs. Sevilla Live Stream: UEFA Europa League Final, Start Time, Preview — Champions League Berth At Stake

Liverpool look to return to the Champions League by beating back-to-back UEFA Europa League Champions Sevilla in the grand final match of that competition, a match that will stream live from Switzerland on Wednesday as the only English club remaining in European competition battles for what would be only their second continental championship since the Champions League era began in 1992.

Liverpool won the Champions League in 2005, but since then have made six Champions League and five UEFA Europa League appearances without ever reaching another final, much less winning a trophy. But this year, the stakes are high as, for only the second year, the Europa League winner will be rewarded with a Champions League berth.

Liverpool did win the UEFA Cup, the forerunner to the Europa League, in 2001 — and the legendary English side has played in 12 European finals.

Sevilla, on the other hand, has ruled the second-tier European club competition, winning not only the last two but four overall, with only Liverpool standing between them and an unprecedented third consecutive title.

By finishing eighth on the Barclays Premier League table this season, and making the final of the Capital One League Cup, but losing that match to Manchester City, Liverpool missed out on qualifying for either the Europa or Champions League next season — unless they can win the Europa League Final on Wednesday.

Sevilla placed seventh in Spain’s La Liga, but has already qualified for a Europa League spot — but they would prefer another shot at the Champions League in the 2016-2017 campaign.

Liverpool’s first-year manager Jurgen Klopp will be looking for the first European trophy of his career, after his previous side, Bundesliga club Borussia Dortmund, lost in the 2013 Champions League final to fellow German team, Bayern Munich.

After winning the German Cup in 2012 with Dortmund, he also lost the final of that domestic tournament in 2014 and 2015 before taking over Liverpool and dropping the Capital One League Cup Final on penalty kicks to Manchester City.

“Things tend to take time to bear fruit,” remarked 23-year-old Liverpool midfielder Philippe Coutinho of his manager. “It has been just seven months and it is the second final we are playing in so it is a great opportunity. The changes he has implemented have had a big part in that.”
