Stephen Curry Injury Update: Steph Could Return For Tonight’s Game 4 Against The Blazers

The latest Stephen Curry injury update is a positive one for a team coming off of a concerning 12-point loss against the Portland Trail Blazers in Game 3 of their playoff series. While the Warriors have been able to overcome Curry’s injury thus far in the playoffs, they are going to need him back in the lineup if they have any hope of winning another championship. The Warriors have not yet announced whether or not he is going to play tonight, but his status has been updated from doubtful to questionable.

This is really huge news for Curry and his availability for tonight’s game. With a doubtful tag, the odds of Curry playing were slim to none. While the questionable tag does not mean that he is going to play, there is now a real chance that he is able to suit up. Monte Poole of CSN Authentic took to Twitter to announce Curry’s upgraded status.

As Rotoworld notes, the final decision is going to come later this afternoon. Warriors head coach Steve Kerr will watch Curry as the day goes on and make the call.

“This is an upgrade from his doubtful tag on Sunday, and he would likely have a minutes cap tonight. The team is likely going to make a decision afternoon. Curry has been on schedule for the past week or so with no setbacks. He went through a 2-on-2 on Saturday, a 3-on-3 on Sunday and it would appear they will make a judgement call after some work today. If he’s back, basically every Warriors player takes a hit with Shaun Livingston taking the biggest hit. We’ll be adding plenty of updates along the way today.”

Even if Curry is unable to play tonight, the Warriors are still a six-point favorite on the Trail Blazers’ home floor. Regardless, it is important that the team gets him back in shape for the remainder of the playoffs. While the odds say that the Warriors should be able to win this series even if Curry does not come back, they are going to need him fresh for their upcoming series against the San Antonio Spurs or Oklahoma City Thunder. While the Trail Blazers were a solid team this year, the Spurs or Thunder are going to be much more difficult.

The problem is that rushing Curry back before he is ready could cause lingering issues. Despite losing Game 3, the Warriors are still in control of the series. While Curry needs to see time on the floor, it is probably in everyone’s best interest to do it slowly. Even if he is available for tonight’s game, it should be in a limited role only. After all, if the Warriors manage to come out victorious tonight, they could potentially close out the series on Wednesday. That will still allow Curry another game to build up more minutes and attempt to get back into playing shape for the Western Conference finals.

While Draymond Green and Klay Thompson are carrying the load in Curry’s absence, it is unlikely that they will be able to defeat the Thunder or Spurs. With a record of 67-15, the Spurs also had one of the greatest seasons in the history of the NBA. With Kevin Durant and Russell Westbrook, the Thunder are also an extremely difficult matchup. As ESPN reports, Curry has just been named the NBA Most Valuable Player for the second straight season.

“Sources told ESPN.com that the widely anticipated honor for Curry is scheduled to be announced in the next few days, with the Warriors poised to return to Oakland, California, on Tuesday after Monday night’s Game 4 in Portland.”

The 28-year-old finished this season averaging 30.1 points per game, 6.7 assists per game, and 5.4 rebounds per game. He also shot an unbelievable 45.4 percent from three-point range and made 363 three-point shots. This was a huge reason that the Warriors were able to finish with a historic record of 73-9.

Until Stephen Curry’s status for tonight’s Game 4 matchup against the Portland Trail Blazers is announced, rumors will continue to speculate about whether or not he is playing. The Warriors should be fine without him, but it is essential that he at least returns for Game 5 in order to prepare himself for the Western Conference finals.
