Daniel Tosh Blames Josh Duggar’s Predatory Behavior On Jim Bob And Michelle Duggar: Is He Right?

Josh Duggar and his parents were one of the many topics that comedian Daniel Tosh discussed during his Comedy Central special, People Pleaser.

Daniel Tosh’s stand-up routines often include references to celebrities and pop culture, and he couldn’t resist taking a dig at the Duggars during his performance at the Wilshire Ebell Theater in Los Angeles. According to Broadway World, Tosh’s Comedy Central special had a theme: People Pleaser was a roasting of the comedian’s “least favorite members of society.” These not-so-pleasing people included Jim Bob, Michelle, and Josh Duggar.

In a People Pleasers clip on the Comedy Central website, Daniel Tosh addresses the topic of overpopulation. According to the comedian, the solution to all the world’s environmental problems is simple: there would be enough resources to go around if people would just stop having kids.

“Selfish. That’s what I think of your families,” Daniel Tosh tells the audience. After bringing up 19 Kids and Counting and making a joke about the current condition of Michelle’s overworked lady parts, Tosh suggests that overpopulation played a part in the sexual molestation scandal that continues to haunt the family. Last summer, In Touch Weekly reported that Josh Duggar had sexually molested four of his younger sisters as a teenager.

“Shocking that one of those kids turned out to be a bad egg,” Tosh said of Josh Duggar’s behavior. “You mean you can’t keep your eye on 19 children?”

Some experts agree with Daniel Tosh’s theory that Josh Duggar’s parents are partly to blame for how he treated his sisters, pointing out that Jim Bob and Michelle Duggar sent their son a confusing message by simultaneously obsessing over procreation and teaching their kids that any sexual behavior is sinful.

“On the one hand, sexuality was repressed in terms of being taught sex was forbidden, but all the while [Josh’s] parents were having sex like bunnies and flaunting their procreation,” psychiatrist Dr. Carole Lieberman told YourTango. “This was extremely confusing for Josh, especially as his teen hormones began to rage.”

As Bustle reports, Jim Bob and Michelle Duggar flaunted their very physical relationship in front of Jessa Duggar and Ben Seewald during a now-infamous game of mini golf that was filmed for 19 Kids and Counting. Jessa and Ben were still dating and hadn’t even kissed yet, and Jim Bob seemed to delight in showing the future husband and wife a few of the physical things that they were not allowed to do.

Another psychiatrist, youth care expert Dr. John Mayer, agrees that Jim Bob and Michelle Duggar are making a huge mistake by repressing their children’s sexuality.

“Conservative groups think that control and restriction leads to prevention, but in fact it leads to sublimation and displacement — two critically important psychological actions that lead to dysfunction.”

So while Daniel Tosh was just joking about Josh Duggar being a “bad egg” because of his parents’ behavior, numerous experts support this assessment. However, they believe that Josh’s behavior likely had more to do with his strict religious upbringing than it did with his parents’ decision to have 19 children. According to SheKnows, studies have also shown that those who commit teenage acts of incestuous molestation were often abused themselves.

Sex therapist Mike Dow believes that Josh Duggar’s strict religious upbringing may also be connected to his infidelity. As The Inquisitr previously reported, Josh admitted to cheating on his wife last August.

“Given Josh’s past and shame and guilt about sexually abusing his sisters, it’s extremely probable that he uses sex as an unhealthy way to deal with negative feelings,” Dow told E! News.

Dow warns that Josh Duggar’s behavior may get worse if he’s simply told to repress his sexual urges instead of undergoing treatment that addresses the psychological root of his issues. According to the sex therapist, Anna Duggar’s best course of action would be to divorce Josh if he fails to get the right kind of help. Unfortunately, Josh decided to seek treatment at a religious facility with no licensed therapists.

During his stand-up routine, Daniel Tosh says that he knows it’s impossible to be a good parent to three kids because he grew up in a household with three siblings. It might disturb him to know that Anna and Josh Duggar already have four kids, and they’re presumably counting on having a few more.
