WWE Rumors, Spoilers: First Round Of WWE Tag Team Tournament Completed — Updated Bracket For Second Round

On Monday Night Raw, Shane McMahon made the official announcement that there would be a tag team tournament to determine new number one contenders for the WWE Tag Team Titles currently held by The New Day. On Raw, the first two matches took place, and then at the SmackDown taping on Tuesday, the other two first-round matches happened. Now, it’s time to check out the updated bracket and how the second round shapes up.

Tournaments are always fun, and even more so when titles eventually end up being at stake. Any of the teams selected to be in the tournament are worthy of the belts, and The New Day is just waiting to see who their next opponents will be.

As recapped on the WWE website, the Dudley Boyz were able to defeat the Lucha Dragons in the first match of the tournament on Raw. They advance to the second round. Later on in the night, The Usos took down the Social Outcasts to advance to the second round as well.

On Tuesday night, the SmackDown taping took place in Los Angeles and the other two first-round matches took place. WrestleZone had the spoilers for the matches which saw The Vaudevillains against the Golden Truth and the team of Enzo Amore and Big Cass against The Ascension.

One match saw Amore and Big Cass defeat The Ascension which sets up a second-round match with the Dudley Boyz. This is a match that’s been coming ever since Amore and Cass stepped on the Raw stage a week ago, and it will likely happen next week.

The other match that will air on SmackDown this week will see The Vaudevillains defeat the Golden Truth — Goldust and R-Truth.

Now, The Vaudevillains will go on to face The Usos in the second round, but there is something even more interesting to that match.

On Monday Night Raw, Luke Gallows and Karl Anderson (The Bullet Club) arrived in WWE by hitting the ring out of the crowd and decimating The Usos. It’s not known if they will just continue attacking random teams or if they’re building toward a program with The Usos.

If Gallows and Anderson are going to be feuding with The Usos, then it’s expected that they likely won’t move forward to the Finals of the tag team tournament. This would lead to the first major program for Gallows and Anderson which would likely solidify them as a true force in WWE.

So, The Vaudevillains could very well move into the Finals this upcoming week, and then they will face off against either the Dudley Boyz or Amore and Big Cass. The time frame leading up to the next pay-per-view makes it seem like the tournament winner will be chosen on either Raw or SmackDown.

The winner will then likely go on to face The New Day for the WWE Tag Team Titles at Payback which takes place on May 1. So sometime this upcoming week, fans will see:

  • The Vaudevillains vs. The Usos
  • The Dudley Boyz vs. Amore & Big Cass

Only four teams remain in the tag team tournament, and two of them are NXT call-ups who have been on the WWE main roster all week. It certainly does seem as if WWE is heading in a direction that doesn’t necessarily include The Vaudevillains and The Usos, but does include Enzo Amore and Big Cass along with the Dudley Boyz. The New Day will have new challengers for their titles soon, and any of the teams would make for an interesting feud.
