Norwegian Drunk Passes Out On Airport Baggage Belt
A drunk Norwegian tourist passed out drunk on the baggage belt of Rome’s Fiumicino airport.
According to The Telegragh, the 36-year-old man arrived at Italy’s busiest airport with a backpack and a can of beer in his hand. The man, who has not been named, was supposed to catch a flight to Oslo. However, once he noticed that there were no attendants on duty at the airline desk, he hopped over the counter and passed out on the baggage belt. The man then reportedly traveled throughout the airport’s secure baggage area in Terminal 3 for 15 minutes before finally being noticed.
Officials spotted the man’s body curled up in the fetal position in an x-ray image on their monitors. The airport police had a hard time waking the man when they were called to the scene to investigate. The man was still clutching his beer when they found him.
The man was then taken to a local hospital because of concern due to his exposure to X-rays and is now facing charges over the incident, reports Newser.
A senior officer with Fiumicino airport police said on Thursday that this incident revealed no weaknesses in the terminal’s security and that it was not their first incident involving “drunks or people with psycholoigical problems”.
“There’s usually an episode like this once a year and we are alert,” the official said. “In this case we were notified, we sounded the alarm immediately, and we took action.”
Another officer stated to the Italian daily, La Repubblica, “It’s impossible to avoid a situation like this if there’s no employee at the check-in desk.”
Further inquiries into the incident are still continuing.
