Although Arsenal have had a difficult last couple of months, the Gunners are known to be strong finishers under Arsene Wenger, and the Frenchman will hope he can inspire his team to a string of good performances as the Premier League draws to a close. The North London outfit are still in the race for the title, if only marginally, but any more slip-ups could virtually seal their fate as far as this season is concerned.

The match against Watford is further spiced up by the fact that the Hornets knocked Arsenal out of the FA Cup when the two teams met at the Emirates last month, in the process ending Arsenal’s long invincible run of 16 wins in the competition.

Groans of disapproval have been ringing loud and clear among a section of fans at the Emirates during the last few home games, and should Arsenal fail to beat Watford in what promises to be tricky game, the pressure on Wenger and his team could mount to a fever pitch.

Arsene Wenger has refused to concede defeat in the Premier League title race despite his team trailing Ranieri’s Leicester City by 11 points having played one game less. Speaking at the pre-match conference, Wenger reiterated that the title race is still open, but accepted that his team can only focus on winning their games.

“79 points could be enough (to win the title). t depends on the results of Leicester City. We are depending on Leicester City and nobody knows how they will go in the last seven games.

They have seven games, we have eight. What is important is that we play our eight games with complete commitment and passion, and see where we finish.”

Arsenal could welcome Petr Cech back to the team after the goalkeeper missed the last five games with a calf problem, according to Sky Sports, while Aaron Ramsey, Santi Cazorla and Alex-Oxlade Chamberlain remain sidelined with injuries. Long-term absentees Jack Wilshere and Tomas Rosicky are back in full-training, but it is quite likely that Arsene Wenger would not risk them for the game today.

Quique Sanchez Flores will have to be on the guard when they take on Arsenal, with Wenger’s men reeling from the FA Cup defeat Flores’ team inflicted on them less than a month ago. In that game, Watford only had two shots on target and still managed to get the better of Arsenal, so it would not be surprising to see Flores set his team up to counter-attack against Arsenal.

Having almost saved themselves from the quagmire of relegation, Watford would still want to finish as high on the table as possible.

Speaking at the pre-match conference, Flores cautioned his team that they would need to be on their best to defeat a team challenging for the title race, according to the Telegraph.

“Every match is very hard in England, in the FA Cup and the league. We are expecting a very tough match. They have to try to get to the top of the league but they have very good players. I think it is difficult for anyone to beat (Leicester).

For Arsenal, they have a lot of pressure but anything can happen in the Premier League.”

Watford do not have any major injury concerns for the match, with their contingent of international players having return unscathed from representing their countries during the international break. However, defender Joel Ekstrand is unlikely to play a part in the game having just returned from a serious knee injury.
