John Wick was Keanu Reeves’ surprise hit of 2014, and proved that he can show range beyond his previous “surfer boy” persona made popular by Point Break and the Bill and Ted films. Not going for the complex plotlines that most action movies attempt these days, John Wick had a basic revenge story that thrilled and kept us on the edge of our seats.
For those who haven’t seen it yet, Keanu Reeves’ John Wick was about a hit man so good, he was hired to take out other hit men. He had retired, but after the death of his wife, a chain of events led to him going after a crime boss in a bloody rain of bullets and relentless revenge. Mrs. Wick had left him a dog, which he symbolized as all she was able to leave him with, but after a fateful trip to a gas station, everything went wrong.
RELATED STORIES ON INQUISITR:
Men broke into John’s home and killed his dog because it wouldn’t stop barking. All of this was because those men wanted his car and he refused to sell it. The one in charge of this case of mistaken identity was the son of a crime lord, and John came out of retirement in spite of his intentions to hunt him down.
John Wick: Chapter 2 will star Keanu Reeves once again, as well as return performances by John Leguizamo, Lance Reddick, Bridget Moynahan, and Ian McShane. Sadly, there won’t be a return from Willem Defoe, whose allegiance wasn’t known until the last minute he was on screen. He was easily central to one of the film’s biggest plot twists.
This time the film won’t be about John getting revenge over someone killing his dog or some other pet. Instead, the film is expected to turn everything up higher as he goes to Rome. The official synopsis was revealed on Collider.
“Keanu Reeves returns in the sequel to the 2014 hit as legendary hitman John Wick who is forced to back out of retirement by a former associate plotting to seize control of a shadowy international assassins’ guild. Bound by a blood oath to help him, John travels to Rome where he squares off against some of the world’s deadliest killers. Lionsgate’s John Wick: Chapter 2 arriving in theaters on February 10, 2017.”
With new cast members including Laurence Fishburne (The Matrix), Ruby Rose (Orange is the New Black), Common (Smokin’ Aces), Peter Stormare (Fargo), and Riccardo Scamarcio (Burnt), we are likely to be treated to yet another bloodbath, possibly rivaling Boondock Saints. Nothing more is known of the plot or what involvement each of the stars will have, or if Marilyn Manson contributes another tension-driving song like “Killing Strangers.”
Yes, John Wick was the second time Keanu Reeves was in an action film with music from the “antichrist superstar.” John Wick: Chapter 2 could easily be the action film of the year if they can manage to generate more action and tension in a war among hit men.

Chad Stahelski will be directing the return of John Wick, and the onslaught of action which ensues when John takes on a league of assassins the likes of which Arrow‘s Oliver Queen could only dream of.
