Senator Elizabeth Warren took to Twitter today to vent her frustrations about Donald Trump. In a blistering series of tweets, Warren viciously attacked the Republican presidential hopeful, calling him a “loser” and a “serious threat” to the United States.
“Let’s be honest, Donald Trump is a loser. Count all his failed businesses, see how he cheated people with scams like Trump University,” Senator Elizabeth Warren tweeted today ahead of Trump’s big speech at AIPAC.
During the tweet-storm, reports Mother Jones, Elizabeth Warren took on Trump’s business record, his fiery rhetoric, and even the image he promotes — that he’s a successful businessman. Warren suggested today that Trump might have had more money if he’d just put his inheritance in an index fund rather than investing it the way that he did.
“[Trump] knows he’s a loser, his insecurities are on parade: petty bullying, attacks on women, cheap racism, flagrant narcissism,” Elizabeth Warren tweeted today during a series of personal attacks against Donald Trump.
Warren went on Facebook to further her withering attacks against Trump, detailing his personal failings as well as his record as a businessman and entrepreneur, calling Trump a serious threat to American democracy. It’s not the first time Warren has taken on Trump in a series of blistering remarks. She previously took aim at the Republican frontrunner during a St. Patrick’s Day breakfast, and Trump fired back.
“She’s got about as much Indian blood as I have. Her whole life was based on a fraud, she got into Harvard and all that because she said she was a minority,” Trump told the New York Times this weekend, referring to a scandal involving Elizabeth Warren’s ethnic heritage.
During the attack, Donald Trump referenced Elizabeth Warren’s job as a Harvard professor, when she was hired as a Native American. The Boston Herald reported that Warren was hired citing family lore that she is part Cherokee, but according to the Herald, she has no Tribal membership and has never associated with Native American causes or groups. Trump, among other Warren critics, claim she lied in order to get the job.
“Let’s be honest – Donald Trump is a loser. Count all his failed businesses, see how he kept his father’s empire afloat by cheating people with cams, using strategic corporate bankruptcy to skip out on debt. Donald Trump stands ready to tear apart an America that was built on values like decency, community and concern for our neighbors,” reads part of Elizabeth Warren’s lengthy Facebook post.
Elizabeth Warren could be taking on a new role in the presidential race – acting as a bulldog for the Clinton campaign and striking back against her likely rival in the general election. Warren has had sharp words for Trump in the past, but this renewed series of attacks could be a response to Trump’s own attacks just this weekend, when he called Warren’s ethnicity into question.
“Many of history’s worth authoritarians started out as losers – and Trump is a serious threat. The way I see it, it’s our job to make sure he ends this campaign every bit the loser that he started it,” Warren said on Facebook today, upping the intensity of her anti-Trump attacks.
The Trump campaign has yet to respond to Warren’s most recent attacks, but given his propensity for trading verbal barbs, it’s unlikely he’ll ignore the Senator’s attacks for long. Politico speculates that Warren’s most recent attacks against Trump come at a time when she is trying to rally Democratic progressives around Hillary Clinton to solidify her credentials as a liberal progressive — two descriptors more often used when defining her opponent, Bernie Sanders.
