‘The Walking Dead’ Star Sonequa Martin-Green Opens Up About Sasha And Abraham’s Romance

For the characters in The Walking Dead, life can be particularly brutal. Sonequa Martin-Green’s Sasha is no exception. Not only did Sasha lose her brother last season, but she also witnessed the death of her love. However, her character recently found a little redemption in her relationship with one of The Walking Dead’s most ardent fighter, Abraham Ford (Michael Cudlitz).

In an interview with Express, Martin-Green opened up about her character’s new romance and how the two share a lot in common. This includes their uncanny ability to survive in a world filled with the undead.

“Oh man, I do love that they began telling this story of the two of them. Anything can happen, it can go a million ways, and I’m excited for people to see how it goes, but I think right now, they have parallel experiences.”

Martin-Green added that both Sasha and Abraham deal with PTSD and share similar military characteristics. While Abraham actually has military experience, Sasha does have a military mindset. Along with living together in a zombie-infested world, this is one thing that connects her to Abraham in a unique way.

Although they share an uncommon connection with each other, The Walking Dead has yet to launch the two into a full out relationship. With that in mind, Martin-Green revealed that Sasha is ready to explore her options in the dating world.

“As Sasha, I’m ready to live again… I’ve been saying that a lot. I’m ready to engage and for the longest time when you first see me I’m very hard and very pragmatic… I realised that coming out of the zombie apocalypse; I put up this wall to protect myself because I didn’t think I could handle being connected to people.”

According to Comicbook.com, the series hinted at a potential relationship between Sasha and Abraham back in the fifth season. However, nothing came of it and the topic was not featured again until a recent episode, titled “Knots Untie.” Does this mean that the two are ready to start a romance?

Sasha and Abraham getting together is more complicated that it might seem. In fact, according to Uproxx, there is the tiny detail that Abraham is currently with Rosita that might prove to be one major obstacle to Sasha and Abraham getting together.

In reaction to their budding romance, fans quickly took to social media to express their disapproval about Sasha and Abraham’s relationship. “Abraham is an idiot. He’s so lucky to have Rosita,” one fan wrote on Twitter. “I don’t know what either of them see in him.”

“OK Abraham: this…this isn’t cool. If you’re feeling Sasha you should NOT be doing the do with Rosita. Hmmph,” another Twitter user wrote.

At this point, it isn’t clear what direction the show will take in regards to Sasha and Abraham. Whatever happens with this zombie love triangle, fans can expect that things aren’t going to end well for all the parties involved. Whether this means that Sasha will get her heart broken again or Rosita will be left behind is yet to be seen.

Of course, the relationship between Sasha and Abraham isn’t the only romance to surface on the show in recent weeks. Fans were surprised to find Rick and Michonne are now a thing, and are even living together in Alexandria. At the same time, fans have long waited for Daryl to hook up with Carol, especially considering how much they care about each other.

The current season of The Walking Dead airs Sunday nights on AMC.
