‘The Walking Dead’ Season 6 Spoilers — Is This The End For Daryl Dixon?

If there’s one that is certain on AMC’s The Walking Dead, it’s that no character is safe. Apparently, that includes Daryl Dixon (Norman Reedus). As the show’s 6th season starts up following its winter break, fans may have more than one reason to worry about one of the show’s most beloved characters.

According to Movie News Guide, the last episode of the series revealed that Daryl may have a life-threatening injury. During the latest installment, titled “No Way Out,” Daryl was shown with an unhealthy amount of blood streaming from his chest. In fact, there was so much blood that the wing on his vest turned crimson red. Will Daryl survive his injury or be yet another casualty on the show?

Daryl has been a mainstay on the show ever since the beginning, and quickly grew on fans to become one of the stars of the series. However, just because the character is well-loved doesn’t mean he is safe. In fact, according to Cheat Sheet, there are a few reasons why the show might kill off everyone’s favorite crossbow carrying hero.

For starters, it is true that Daryl’s main story arc has run its course. Daryl has gone through some major transformations since the first season, including going from an anti-social but loyal brother to one of the group’s best leaders. For the most parts, these changes are an indication that Daryl has little room for further development, which doesn’t bode well for his future.

At the same time, Daryl successfully created some major beef with the show’s newest villain, Negan. While Daryl’s rescue of Abraham and Sasha from the hands of Negan’s thugs was truly epic, Negan is definitely not going to react kindly to his actions. Will Daryl be Negan’s next victim?

Furthermore, there have been some indications from some of the cast members that something terrible is in store during this season’s finale. In fact, Andrew Lincoln (Rick Grimes) made some interesting and disturbing comments after reading the script for the finale.

“I felt sick to my stomach when I read the script. It was the first day in the whole six years of working on The Walking Dead that I was late for work because I woke up in the middle of the night and I couldn’t get back to sleep… I was so angry and frustrated, and I felt sick. And that was just after reading it.”

In addition to Lincoln’s comments, Lauren Cohan (Maggie) didn’t help matters any. If anything, she only added to the ill feeling amongst fans and cast members alike.

“It took a really, really long time for everybody to feel okay again after the finale, let’s put it that way.”

That being said, E! Online is reporting that The Walking Dead hasn’t always remained true to the comics. In fact, there is not a precedent in the comics for Reedus’ character. Although it may come as a surprise to some fans, Daryl isn’t even mentioned in the comics.

With that in mind, producers have a lot of liberty when it comes to Daryl. Not only does this make keeping him alive a real possibility, but it also means that they will have a lot of considerations to make if they write in his death in Season 6. If they do decide to kill him off during the season finale, then it would definitely enrage a lot of their fans. Hopefully, this isn’t the case and Daryl continues strong for a few more seasons.

The sixth season of The Walking Dead continues on Sunday nights on AMC.
