Watch ‘The Walking Dead: Michonne’ Opening: 5 Minutes Of Hallucinating And Zombie Killing

Telltale Games gave a first peek into The Walking Dead: Michonne Sunday night to coincide with the premiere of the AMC TV show’s midseason debut. The PlayStation, Xbox, PC, and mobile adventure game is a little over a week away, but you can watch the first five minutes of the choice-and-consequence adventure game right now.

The first episode of The Walking Dead: Michonne – A Telltale Miniseries will premiere on February 23 for the PS4, Xbox One, PS3, Xbox 360, and PC. The iOS and Android release will arrive on the App Store, Google Play, and Amazon App Store two days later, on February 25. The miniseries will run for three episodes and cost $14.99. There does not appear to be an option to purchase episodes individually.

The release plan for The Walking Dead: Michonne calls for the second episode, “Give No Shelter,” to arrive in March. The series will then conclude with the third episode, “What We Deserve,” in April.

“In Too Deep” is the title of the first The Walking Dead: Michonne episode and helps fill the gap in between issues No. 126 and No. 139 of Robert Kirkman’s comic book series. Played by Samira Wiley of Orange Is the New Black, it will be a closer look at what makes the sword-wielding character tick and hints at exploring more of Michonne’s past.

The five-minute preview revealed Michonne making her way through the woods while hallucinating about something that happened in her past at the same time. The cuts back and forth between the real world and the heroine can be a bit jarring, but it’s also an action-packed sequence for the adventure series. Presumably, the preview ends just before running into her new companions.

“Michonne joins Pete and his crew on the sailing ship The Companion as they cruise the coast for survivors and supplies,” Telltale’s press release states of the plot. “When a desperate signal for help draws them to a scene of horrific massacre, Michonne and the crew are lead further to the floating survivors’ colony of Monroe, which may just be harboring the person responsible for the carnage.”

“Over the three episodes of the miniseries, players will discover what took Michonne away from Rick, Ezekiel, and the rest of her trusted group… and what brought her back,” Telltale states.

The Walking Dead series has been Telltale Games’ biggest hit yet. The first and second seasons starring Clementine, along with the 400 Days in-between filler, have sold more than 50 million episodes worldwide. They have also won numerous awards, including Game of the Year from USA Today, Wired, and other media outlets.

“In many ways, Michonne herself is a reflection of the world of The Walking Dead. She is brutal and cold on the outside, but deep beneath what is broken, she remains hopeful, trying to claw her way out of the darkness that surrounds her,” Walking Dead creator Robert Kirkman said during last year’s E3 announcement. “In our effort to bring the world of the comic and the world of the Telltale series closer together, there is no greater character than Michonne to help bridge that gap.”

The Walking Dead: Michonne also serves as a combination of bridge and filler for The Walking Dead: Season 3. The next season of Telltale’s smash hit is waiting in the wings with an unannounced release date. The developer is working on an untitled Batman game due out this year. Meanwhile, an untitled Marvel game is also planned for 2017, along with Game of Thrones: Season Two.
