‘The Voice’ Top 10: Who Is Most Vulnerable To A Surprise Elimination?

Raise your hand if you thought The Voice would end with Evan McKeel eliminated last week and Korin Bukowski being saved yet again. Now put your hand down, because you’re a liar!

Almost nobody saw that coming. While I predicted there was a chance Evan could make the Bottom 2, the circumstances that led to his expulsion from the Voice Top 10 were hard to see coming. It was probably our first true-blue surprise elimination.

Thanks to the makeup of the Top 10, there are at least two people who will stay on The Voice longer than they should. Therefore, we’re destined to have at least one other major, shocking elimination before we get to the Top 5. I actually appreciate The Voice revising the Bottom 3 to a Bottom 2, because we’ve had seasons where multiple promising singers left while a mediocre (but popular) Voice contender remained.

That also makes it easier to determine which individual singers are most likely to be the ones to leave way early — and why.

Amy Vachal has revitalized interest in her artistry that may have been waning due to her slow, soothing, jazz style. Through her reinterpretation of “Hotline Bling” and “Style,” she’s definitely made herself a serious front-runner. Having said that, she’s now extremely vulnerable to a surprise elimination in the coming weeks. If you’re wondering “how,” it’s as simple as her teammates.

I’d all but counted out Shelby Brown with the emergence of Emily Ann Roberts, but Voice country fans demonstrated there’s room in that voting bloc for both women. And as I’ve previously stated, Brown is just one mind-blowing performance away from permanently seizing a huge chunk of Team Blake’s Voice voters.

Jordan Smith, the “de-facto” main front-runner this season, pretty much has his own voting bloc. He appeared to have slid a little, which may alarm his Voice fans enough to vote even harder for him.

This leaves Amy Vachal supporters competing not only against her own teammates’ solid voting blocs, but the Team Blake country voting bloc, and the “cute guy” voting bloc (lovingly devoted to Braiden Sunshine and Zach Seabaugh). Despite her unique, Jazz sound, if she gets paired up with someone who has a strong, devoted Voice fan base — like adorable Braiden — she could go home.

Just as I learn to love Madi Davis, it comes to my attention that she could go home early. When it comes to a surprise upset, her situation is even more dire than Amy Vachal’s. Amy Vachal has positioned herself as a unique frontrunner on a solid team, and everyone loves a winner.

Thanks to Evan’s departure, Madi now stands alone on Team Pharrell. As an indie artist, she seems to be competing for the same Voice votes as Korin Bukowski. The bad news is that Korin Bukowski has twice as many Twitter followers as she does. Remember, Twitter plays the final, vital role in determining who survives via the “instant save.”

If Madi Davis is paired with someone who has a stronger social media following, that could be what sends her home, regardless of how well she performs her final song.

Barrett Baber is loved by the Voice fans (and Voice producers) for his “everyman” appeal. He’s a teacher, and he’s living his dream! How awesome is that? Unfortunately, his situation is, with the survival of Shelby Brown to the Top 10, now decidedly less awesome.

We have Shelby on the verge of taking a permanent chunk of the Voice country voting bloc. We have Emily Ann Roberts and Zach Seabaugh, both of whom are much younger and much more physically attractive. Do you see where I’m going with this? If not, allow me to spell it out for you: As much as Baber is meant to appeal to older Voice viewers, the “looks” and “age” factors may ultimately work against him. There are younger, more physically attractive country artists this season, and I wouldn’t be surprised if it’s what gets Baber sent home.

Having said that, I do think there’s a slim chance Barrett could win in a Bottom 2 against Emily Ann; he has more Twitter followers. However, if he’s made to compete with “fangirl dreamboats” Zach or Braiden, I’m afraid that’s a wrap for the beloved educator.

I don’t know how much longer Korin Bukowski will survive, but between herself, Zach Seabaugh, and Braiden Sunshine sticking around, I do anticipate serious drama in the coming weeks. The Voice showrunners may be actively trying to avoid losing too many talented frontrunners too soon, but the changes to the series won’t stop the inevitable.
