Gwen Stefani Stuns With Heartbreaking Performance Of ‘Used To Love You’ At 2015 AMAs — What Did Blake Shelton Think Of The Performance?

Gwen Stefani just brought the house down at the 2015 American Music Awards by delivering an emotional performance of her breakup anthem, “Used to Love You,” according to the Rolling Stone.

As most know by now, what made Gwen Stefani’s performance even more momentous is the fact that the song itself was inspired by her recent, and much-talked-about divorce with rocker Gavin Rossdale. Even more interesting is how that particular break up led to a string of events that put the media in a wild frenzy over the last few weeks.

During the performance, Gwen Stefani rocked an elegant floor-length Yousef Al-Jasmi gown while the official video for “Used to Love You” played via multiple screens in the background. The performance, however, is made all the more stunning by Gwen Stefani herself, whose facial expressions and body language on stage gave it more emotional weight.

Gwen Stefani’s new beau, Blake Shelton, wasn’t among the audience when Gwen Stefani belted her heart out on stage at the prestigious music award show. Interestingly, the person sitting next to Gwen’s chair during the performance is a good friend of Blake Shelton’s, country singer Luke Bryant. How good friends are they? In his interview with E! News earlier this month, Luke delivered a friendly jab at Blake Shelton at the Country Music Awards.

“You’re trying to trick me. It can’t be true, because there’s no way Blake could ever score a girl like that,” Bryan joked.

Blake Shelton was not in attendance during Gwen’s performance, but that doesn’t mean he didn’t send his love and support to Gwen in another way. Hours before Gwen took the stage at the 2015 AMAs, Blake tweeted the words “Prepare for greatness,” as previously reported in People. It didn’t stop there. After a fan tweeted that Gwen’s performance was the “best of the show,” Blake responded with the tweet “Agreed.”

“Used to Love You” is Gwen Stefani’s first single off her upcoming third studio album. Written by Stefani along with Justin Tranter, Julia Michaels, J.R. Rotem, and Teal Douville, the track is perhaps the No Doubt vocalist’s most personal track in her decades-long career as a singer-songwriter. According to Gwen Stefani, she wrote the words to the song in the wake of her divorce with Gavin Rossdale.

Gwen Stefani performed “Used to Love You” for the first time at a concert on October 17, 2015. The official music video for the track was released three days later. The video features a single shot of an emotional Gwen Stefani singing – more like mouthing – some of the words to the track, very much in the vein of Sinead O’Connor’s official music video for “Nothing Compares 2 U.” Gwen Stefani performed the track for the first time on The Ellen DeGeneres Show on October 26, 2015.

As heart-wrenching and depressing as the song is, Gwen Stefani seems to be all smiles these days, thanks to her budding romance with country star Blake Shelton. Since the two announced they are officially dating a few weeks ago, the two lovebirds haven’t been shy to pile on the PDA, as previously reported in the Inquisitr. The most recent updates about the couple seem to suggest that their relationship is going into more serious territory. In fact, Blake will be spending his Thanksgiving this year with Gwen and her kids at his Beverly Hills home this year. To top it off, Hollywood Life confirmed that the two Voice judges are “thinking of taking a trip” together soon.
