Johnny Depp, known for non-traditional Hollywood movie roles, is supposedly going to be starring in a new adaptation of the children’s book, Fortunately, The Milk, according to Variety. The book about time travel by Neil Gaiman (Coraline) is currently being adapted to a film script by Bret McKenzie (Flight of the Conchords) and will be directed by Edgar Wright. The live-action and animated movie will be produced by Australia’s Animal Logic Entertainment (The Lego Movie), with Zarah Nalbandian as producer. Fortunately, the Milk was published in September of 2014 and is narrated from the point of view of a child.

20th Century Fox is also looking to join in, acquiring the project, and Johnny Depp will also be co-producing the film. This is not the first time Edgar Wright has asked Depp to work with him; in 2012, Empire Online reported that Depp was slated to star in The Night Stalker, which was a Wright project headed by Disney. Though that hasn’t happened as of yet, hopefully Depp will actually star in the new Wright film. Although its not clear what Depp’s role will be, it’s most likely that Depp will play the father. In the book, the father goes out to buy milk for the children’s cereal and returns later with a fantastical tale of being abducted by aliens and space and time travel. This character would be definitely suited for Depp.

Depp apparently loves doing children’s fantasy stories, other films of Depp’s that are geared towards children are Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, Corpse Bride, Rango, Alice in Wonderland, and Into the Woods. Most recently, Johnny Depp has earned mixed reviews for his portrayal of Whitey Bulger in Black Mass. New movies Depp is involved in include two completed but as of yet unreleased films, London Fields and Yoga Hosers. Johnny is also starring in two movies in post production, a sequel to Alice in WonderlandAlice Through the Looking Glass (2016) and Pirates of the Carribean: Dead Men Tell No Tales (2017). No date has yet been given for FTM.

Depp recently tugged at our heartstrings when he visited a children’s hospital in full costume as Jack Sparrow, much to the surprise of a couple of young patients who got the treat of their lives. He then visited more young patients in the children’s ward. A few videos have been making their way around social media, below is a more in-depth video showing the two young girls who are anxiously awaiting a surprise, not knowing who or what the surprise would be. Depp totally stayed in character, at first telling the awe-struck girl that they had come to take her to “the room full of spiders.” Depp then said he didn’t like spiders and asked her for a hug, which she gladly did.

The hospital was in Australia where Pirates of the Caribbean is being filmed, and Depp took a break from filming to visit the children. Another awesome thing about Depp’s visit is that it was featured on Juiced TV, which is a TV show created by the children in the hospital, for the children in the hospital! What a great idea, and Depp gets kudos for appearing for the children.

Depp will no doubt bring another character to life as only Depp can with Fortunately, The Milk. Depp’s witty and quirky ability to ad-lib his characters is one of his greatest gifts to the acting world. Do you think Johnny Depp will do FTM justice?
