Amal Clooney: Is She Really ‘The Wife Of George?’ Cindy Crawford Dishes On Barrister
Certainly the question as to whether Amal Clooney is the wife of George Clooney is a loaded one. Of course, she is married to George. However, on several occasions, the intelligent barrister who works tirelessly to defend the rights of individuals who are involved in some of the most high-profile cases presently, is diminished to simply being just that- “the wife of George.”
The Associated Press was first to come under fire for introducing Amal as the “actor’s wife” in a hastily composed tweet in August. Backlash prompted the news outlet to retract and reword the tweet. Most recently, another occasion during which Amal was identified as simply the wife of George, occurred within the courthouse.

The Rappler notes that “Lawyer Larry Gadon had just read an email sent to him by international lawyer Amal Alamuddin Clooney, who filed a case before the UN body in February 2015 on behalf of the former Philippine president.” The moderator of the case admitted his ignorance in regards to who Amal is.
“Pardon my ignorance, but is Amal Clooney the wife of George Clooney?”
To this inquiry, Gadon rightly responded in defense of Amal’s outstanding legal performances that are far removed from her husband, George Clooney.
“Yes, Amal Clooney is the wife of George Clooney, but she has already gained prominence as an international lawyer long before she married George Clooney. In fact, she worked with Kofi Annan when he was secretary General of the United Nations and has held several positions with the UN.”
Further diminishing Amal’s intelligence and track record, which includes cases involving Wikileaks founder Julian Assange, Al Jazeera journalist Mohamed Fahmy who was jailed in Egypt, and controversial Ukrainian Prime Minister Yulia Tymoshenko, the same moderator, who is an apparent journalist, questioned how Clooney’s beauty perhaps affects her performance as a barrister in such matters.
“If Amal were to show up at the Sandiganbayan, would it affect her (Arroyo’s) case, considering how beautiful she is?”
Attorney Gadon took the high road by ignoring the posed question and simply carried on taking other queries, as the Rappler recounts.
Amal Clooney is certainly more than just the wife of a notable actor. Even that said actor admits that he feels entirely inferior to Amal. Pals to George also attest to the fact that Amal Clooney is not simply a piece of arm candy to accompany George to Hollywood events. Cindy Crawford, a close pal to the couple, shared why she and Amal have bonded so seamlessly. People relays the former supermodel’s words about Clooney.
“I think one of the things I love about Amal is that she’s not only interesting – she’s very interesting to talk to – but she’s also interested in your world as well.”
Although Amal is one intelligent and hardworking human rights lawyer, she has also found herself in the realm of style icon since coming on the scene amongst celebrities and while gracing Hollywood red carpets. Her beauty is undisputed no matter how integral she is in the legal world. Cindy Crawford makes note of Amal’s exceptional taste for fine clothes and style and her interest in other’s take on the world of photography and fashion.
“Amal is an incredibly fashionable person so she doesn’t need my advice… I guess we talk about fashion in a way, but it’s not like we pore over magazines together. It’s more like, she’ll ask me, ‘Who is your favorite photographer.’ She’s interested in my life, just like I’m interested in her life.”
It’s clear that Cindy and Amal have grown closer over the past year seeing as Amal’s husband George and Cindy’s husband Rande have recently gone into business together. The couple’s seem inseparable, when Amal isn’t in the courtroom, that is.
