While it came as a surprise to many that Republican presidential hopeful Donald Trump surged to the lead in polls, it was commonly thought that Trump, who has no political background, would quickly fall away as America’s favorite candidate.
Now three months into the race, Donald Trump has not only managed to hang on to the presidential candidacy, but he has also maintained his lead in the GOP polls. Though Trump’s numbers have slipped slightly following the second Republican debate, The Donald still presides as the poll leader, followed by Dr. Ben Carson and Carly Fiorina.
The fact that Donald Trump is not a career politician has not hurt his candidacy at all. In fact, it seems to have buffered his popularity. Americans are sick and tired of politicians’ half-truths and lies, manipulation, and corrupt ways. Donald Trump is different, and that alone makes him desirable.
Trump differs in many ways from career politicians: he has no desire to be politically correct; he says what he means and stands by his words no matter how much controversy they cause; he supports his campaign with his own money, which means he has no obligations towards people or groups who have donated to his cause. Donald Trump’s campaign slogan, Make America Great Again, hits the hearts of the American people who remember better times, better economy, and better moral values.
