‘Big Brother 17’: Steve Moses Explains The Becky Burgess Feud That Confused So Many Viewers

Steve Moses may have won Big Brother 17, but his game play was not always obvious. Some of his moves, and perceptions of the game, clearly confused many viewers. Chief among them was his seemingly visceral dislike of Becky Burgess, one of the jury members who ultimately voted for him to win the game.

Entertainment Weekly, in its recap of an episode in early August, suggested Big Brother editors show footage of what caused Steve to apparently hate Becky so much. Bustle provided a timeline on August 4 that apparently showed the progression from friendship to hatred between Steve and Becky. It included Steve’s glee at Becky’s downfall during a competition.

“Becky drops her ball, and I can see her entire demeanor — she is crushed. And seeing that misery in her is making me so freaking happy. I am loving just watching her crash. It’s that simple, I’m sorry, and good luck back in Colorado.”

When Steve won the game, The Hollywood Reporter asked him what was up with that Becky feud. To hear Moses tell it, it was not as big a deal as those on the outside made it seem. He even likes her as a person. But he may have been put off by her unwillingness to talk game with him.

“First of all, I love her. All game, nothing personal. In week two, I went up to her to talk about nominations. I offered her, ‘Hey, if you don’t put me up, I won’t put you up the next two weeks if I win HoH.’ It was never a possibility because I was throwing every HoH for probably the first half of the game. So I tried building bridges and connections with her, [but] she wouldn’t do it.

“I couldn’t talk to her game-wise. When I offered her a deal she would act like I just threw a hot potato at her! So I’m like, ‘I don’t know what to do with this!’ Honestly, I think it was played up to be more than it was.”

Steve faced many challenges with the social aspects of the house, as he said repeatedly throughout the season. At final six, when he won Head of Household, another Entertainment Weekly recap discussed the twins, Liz and Julia Nolan, and their treatment of him while he had power.

“It sounds like the pretty girl at school asking the sad nerdy kid, sitting alone at a lunch table, about whether he likes her so she can publicly humiliate him in front of everyone.”

But in the end, the nerdy kid won it all.
