New Zealand native Martin Henderson has made many adventures before he landed on Grey’s Anatomy at Grey-Sloan Memorial Hospital as the hunk du jour. It seems most recently, he tangled with Mt. Everest while playing a guide in a movie that will soon be released in IMAX theaters everywhere.
Though his role on Grey’s Anatomy is not yet clear, the Inquisitr has reported that he will start on the show at some point mid season. Regardless, Shonda Rhimes has said the he will do more than “fill the gap” left by Patrick Dempsey’s departure.
Before Martin Henderson played a guide on Mt. Everest, the outdoorsman personally traveled to the foothills of the Himalayas on a vacation, according to the New Zealand Herald. On another trip, he was chased by a rhino in Nepal.
“I actually thought it was going to be my last breath,” he laughs down the line from somewhere in Georgia where he is playing a vet in family movie Miracles from Heaven opposite Jennifer Garner.
“I thought this is going to read so bad in a New Zealand article. ‘Whatever happened to Stuart Neilson? Oh he got killed by a rhino’. Kind of exotic and pathetic at the same time.”
The Inquisitr is reporting that Shonda Rhimes will not confirm nor deny that Henderson will be Meredith’s new love interest in the coming season. Ellen Pompeo also was mum on the topic, but acknowledged that Henderson is “very cute.” When asked what his Mc- nickname would be, Pompeo said giving nicknames was the job of Shonda Rhimes.
But BeamlyUK has said that Martin Henderson has been given an unofficial nickname already: McKiwi, as a nod to his New Zealand roots. But Henderson has big shoes to fill.
“We thought that the hole in our hearts left by Patrick Dempsey’s magnificent hair would never be filled – but hopefully we are wrong, since a new hirsute gent has been cast for Grey’s Anatomy, and he’s pretty enough that we might forget that McDreamy ever existed.”
