Yfke Sturm: Victoria’s Secret Model Wakes From Surfing Accident Coma

Yfke Sturm, the Victoria’s Secret model who was involved in a surfing accident last week, has awoken from her medically induced coma.

According to Fox News, Sturm fractured her skull and several vertebrae while riding a motorized surfboard off the coast of Italy. She was run over by one of the jet surfboards and had to be airlifted to a hospital in Naples. Doctors said the Victoria’s Secret model was at serious risk of permanent paralysis unless surgeons acted fast. Yfke Sturm was placed on a ventilator and induced into a coma to allow for safe recovery.

Now, the Victoria’s Secret model has emerged from her coma and is reportedly showing signs of improvement, according to the Italian newspaper La Repubblica. All of Sturm’s surgical procedures, as well as the procedures, requires to wake her from the coma have also gone well.

The father of the Victoria’s Secret model, Wilfred Strum, spoke to the Dutch newspaper theTelegraaf on Friday, revealing that Yfke had a “hairline fracture in her skull,” but that she was not bleeding.

Yfke Sturm is represented by the Next Models agency, which released a statement following the Victoria’s Secret model’s tragic accident.

“We are shocked to hear about this terrible accident. Our thoughts are with Yfke and her family at this time and we are praying for her speedy recovery.”

Fortunately, it’s looking like Yfke Sturm will make a full recovery and return to modeling in a few months.

The surfing accident came at an especially bad time, because Sturm had just welcomed her son Alexander into the world. On August 8, the Victoria’s secret model made the official announcement on her Facebook fan page.

“Words can not descibe [sic] how excited we are for the arrival of our son Alexander!! ??”

Since the accident, her Facebook page has become flooded with supportive messages from her fans urging Yfke to get well soon.

“Good fortune be with you and the new arrival for a speedy recovery,” wrote one fan.

“Praying for you and will ask others to as well,” said another.

Yfke Sturm has worked as a Victoria’s Secret model as well as with brands like Calvin Klein, Ralph Lauren, Dior, and Valentino. She hosts Holland’s Next Top Model and works as an ambassador for the Dutch Red Cross Foundation. Sturm also founded her own charity, Yfke 4 Kids, which provides help for children suffering from AIDS.
