‘Uncharted 4’ Is Getting Story DLC Thanks To ‘The Last Of Us’

Now that Naughty Dog has set the official release date of Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End to land in March of next year, the developer has revealed that they are also working on a single-player story DLC for the game. In the past, the fans of the action series have seen add-ons which introduce new multiplayer content across previous installments. That means the upcoming campaign expansion for Uncharted 4 will be the first time that the franchise will receive new story-driven DLC.

In an interview given at the GameStop Expo, Naughty Dog’s Arne Meyer spoke with the popular gaming website about why the developer decided to finally give Nathan Drake a story DLC with Uncharted 4. Ultimately, Meyer revealed that the studio is hoping to recreate the recent success that they had with the Left Behind DLC for The Last of Us.

“It worked really well for us for The Last of Us. We thought we could put together a really great piece of content as well [for Uncharted 4]. I think we rose to the challenge for The Last of Us, so we decided we’re going to take another shot at it.”

The Uncharted 4 add-on will only be Naughty Dog’s second attempt at adding story content after the launch of a game. The prequel add-on campaign for The Last of Us was the first time that Naughty Dog ever created a single-player DLC for one of their games.

However, it was revealed that the developer has discussed the possibility of making story-driven expansions before Left Behind. In fact, Meyer confirmed that the team even considered developing single-player DLC for previous Uncharted titles but they simply couldn’t ever implement the idea smoothly so the feature was repeatedly ditched.

According to a Dual Shockers report, Naughty Dog has also spoken about the reasons that Uncharted 4 will follow an older Nathan Drake. The developer explained that the story will focus on the stress that the series’ protagonist has endured over the years. As such, Drake needed to be able to look physically run down and tired.

While Naughty Dog has announced that there will be single-player DLC available sometime after the launch of Uncharted 4, the developer has not yet specified exactly when the add-on will be ready for fans to download. At this time, all that is known is that the new story campaign will be available as part of DLC triple pack.

The bundle will function similarly to a DLC season pass which will grant players access to three different add-ons for Uncharted 4. In addition to the announced single-player expansion, the “Uncharted Triple Pack” will also include two separate multiplayer add-ons.
