New USPS Postage Rates Cause Growing Interest in Forever Stamps

The new USPS postage rates are causing more and more people to jump at the chance to buy forever stamps in an effort to soften the blow of postage increases in the future.

New Postage Rates go in effect today

New postage rates rose today (Monday, May 11/09) from 42 cents to 44 cents to mail a standard letter in the U.S. The USPS says the postage rate hike was necessary to cover rising production costs.

If you were lucky enough to buy your forever stamps at the rate of 41 or 42 cents before the postage rate hike today, you can still use them regardless of today’s increases.

With 5 postal rate increases since 2000, combined with the USPS promoting them on their web site and offline through conventional media, understandably, people are flocking to buy their forever stamps before any future rate increases.
