When Drag Me Down dropped, the world listened. The song is currently No. 3 on the Billboard Hot 100. Drag Me Down‘s debut is the highest of 2015. It will probably stay that way until One Direction releases another single. By next week the song may even jump up a notch or two in its climb to the top position.
“When we dropped the single we knew we had a good song, but we didn’t expect such a huge reaction. We definitely didn’t think it would become the highest debut on the Billboard Hot 100 chart this year! Again, we need to thank our amazing fans around the world for their constant, unconditional support.”
As for when the entire album or even another single will be released, there is still no sign. Fans will have to hang onto Drag Me Down until further news breaks. Hopefully fans will be content for a while. At least until One Direction gets off their Up All Night Tour later this year.
Fifth album ready or not, Drag Me Down was unleashed on the public in the early morning hours of July 31. One Direction has been performing Drag Me Down on tour, even though the tour is officially still promoting songs from their fourth album.
Since the departure of Zayn Malik from One Direction’s lineup, The X Factor judge Louis Walsh predicted the entire group will split. He’s quoted saying, “I think there’s one more album and that’s it.” But after One Direction, Walsh predicted Styles would not only do well in the music industry, but would also eventually go into acting and be successful there as well.
Walsh told Music Week his prediction,
“They’ve had an amazing run. I don’t know who’s going to be a [solo] star. If I was betting on anybody, I’d put my money on Harry [Styles], because he’s got the ambition.”
But before One Direction goes the way of ‘N Sync and Harry Styles becomes the new Justin Timberlake, fans will have to watch the success of Drag Me Down and further releases. And whether or not Zayn Malik can be successful on his own may influence the choices of the remaining One Direction members.
Drag Me Down does not sound like an anthem from a group about to fall apart. It sounds like a group rejuvenated. Some fans wonder if Drag Me Down is a shot at Zayn Malik, and his role in the group.
